Jones went on to coach the Japanese and English national teams before making a return to the Wallabies earlier this year, but after losing to South Africa and Argentina in his first two games in charge, Connolly fears the appointment is a backwards step. 'How did we end up with Eddie again? He is full of it. He talks a great game but plays a terrible one,' Connolly, who labelled the comeback a 'bloody disaster', told the Telegraph 'He is a charlatan, he is a failed selector. He was the captain's pick by the chairman who just came into the job. When I took over from Eddie, the players were like beaten down sheepdogs. Not bringing Michael hooper , Quade cooper, Pete Samu, Reece Hodge just to name a few to the World Cup was shocking while picking all these young players to just get them ready for the next World Cup in Australia like this World Cup didn’t matter Most if not everyone in Australia but Eddie Jones knew this was never the right call. You have to give credit to Eddie. He took his medicine like a man. He's decided to take the hard route and I have some sympathy for the path he has taken, ideally to help Australia be better in the long term. AU have been struggling for a long time. Not a lot to lose from a fresh start. The old team might have done better, but it wasn't going to benefit AU in the long term. The older team weren't likely to win. My only issue with his comments was his lack of concern around penalties and instead focusing on front foot ball. It's chicken and egg. If you aren't getting FF ball then you give away penalties but if you give away penalties you can't get momentum, which is required for front foot ball. I feel they could have done better with their kicking and that could have helped.

No one remembers JC but EJ is far more experienced and have won more games in the WC - compare that!. Of course when you take over as a new coach you will rebuild the team and to blame the last coach says more about you as a leader than the previous one.
@poerava10 ай бұрын
@@DT7w8 Firstly, no. Not every coach blames the last coach. So there’s that. Secondly, I remember him. He was a brilliant coach. Oh and he wasn’t fired too. Or a clown in the media. The key metric of success as a coach is if the players respect and appreciate you as a coach. This is well documented and researched across all codes. They wallabies players themselves said these things about Jones and how he was up himself and cared about himself more than the team. You don’t see this in his comments in the media? Making it about him. He’s an absolutely clown and the ARU are a pack of crooks to keep him on. Also people that spoke out against his selfish style is Japanese management, the England management and the current Australian management that left not long after he came on. He’s an arrogant, narcissistic spoiled brat. I don’t think this is disputed. I mean he was bagging English players out in the media about how their upbringing and how he thinks that’s why they don’t worship the ground he walks on. See a pattern here? John Connelly had a better winning record and more respect from the players. I don’t think you need to clutch for straws and say that Eddie’s winning record at world cups makes him less of an a$$ hole. Did you hear his comment to the media about ‘kicking a dead man’? Do you think he is referring to himself? The team, or just A general sentiment about how when you lose your like a dead man? How do you think this makes the players respect their coach? I think he needs to spend a bit more time with the teams 3 psychologists. The pay of one Australian players probably pays for the entire Fijian teams budget for the World Cup. Oh and then there’s the fact that you just lost to Fiji. So there’s that.

I feel for the players Here’s some comments about Eddie Jones from John Connelly (ex wallabies coach that took over coaching from 2006-2007 with a 64% win record vs Eddie Jones record from 2001-2005 of 57.89% win record): Eddie Jones is a a 'charlatan'. John Connolly succeeded Jones when the outspoken rugby coach left his post as Wallabies coach in 2006, having guided the Aussies over a four-year spell. If you walked in a room they would have their heads down and were scared to do anything. 'There was no leadership. There was no development. It was a total void that took nearly a year to rebuild. I can't believe we have made the same mistake again.'

Rugby needs Eddie Jones. His presser's are the best, Eddie elevates trolling 'journalists' to a art form.

all one need know about a team is revealed in the character of the coach in the press conference. and teams represent countries. not a mode to spend any time in or around if there’s a war to win. compare this to jacques and rassie. whether SA win or not. chalk and cheese.

This is no surprise- not even a coach of Eddie’s calibre can fix the root cause of rugby decline in Australia.

Eddies "calibre" has been the root cause :-)

@@JoeTheLion60 there is a lack of player talent and depth. He can only work with what he has.

He went to England because Wallabies didn't want him, and then they had him back 😊

@@greyhamlogan2255 wallabies have the best training facilities in the world. Access to everything they need to be world beaters. Unfortunately the players are not role models and do not inspire kids to play the game which already competes with other codes. This started in the early 2000 after the success in the 1990’s and was not properly addressed by Rugby Australia . Not enough players of quality. Also throwing the South African teams out of super rugby was a mistake. Many factors.

Mate when you’re 1 and 6 people are gonna ask the tough questions, what do you spect. Eddie sounds like a man that doesn’t have any answers…!!! You can’t keep blowing smoke to the Australian public we are to clever for it mate . Carter should have been behind a more experienced flyhalf for this World Cup and then. Bring him on slowly like we did with larkham 😢

Awkward at its best. Even the reporters can't think about what to ask Eddie anymore. The excuses and rude answers are not OK. We need some RSA reporters there to ask some " Eddie compatable" questions.
