When the networks actually planned out Saturday night instead of using it as a dumpster for reruns and newsmagazines. I miss those days (which really aren't that long ago...)

For all you advertising fans and car enthusiasts, the blonde with the Lustre Creme sign is Pam Austin better known as the Dodge girl, and the announcer was none other than Johnny Olson of The Price Is Right

If they had moved "Gilligan's Island" a half-hour earlier or "Mr. Magoo" a half-hour later, they would have had Jim Backus competing against himself...
@RwDt09
@RwDt09 4 жыл бұрын
Actually, NBC did just that, with Mr. Magoo and Kentucky Jones switching time slots at mid-season, which then had Backus as Magoo opposite himself on Gilligan.

the original Outer Limits! My all-time favorite series! I was about 10 when it first aired ..... and it never failed to creep me out SOOOO good! In a perfect world, every show & movie ever made would be affordably available on disc/streaming. There are so many that i will never get to see again.

I was a 7-year-old second grader back in the fall of '64. And my brother was born that November as well. But I do remember some of these shows.

Excellent! I was just a young tike at the time, so probably the only thing I watched was Mr. Magoo (Hollywood Palace at Christmas and a year or two later). When did Jackie Gleason move the show to Miami? Didn't know it was in NYC. Also, had not heard of Mr. Broadway but LOVE the Peter Gunn-ish opening. Saw it was Dave Brubeck. Of course - that's why it was so good!

I was born in 1980 but, I was still able to catch a lot of these on Nick at Nite. I loved shows like Gilligans Island, Mr. Ed, Dobie Gillis, and so many great shows.

Much better content than we get with 100X more channels. The three networks ( ABC, NBC, CBS ) managed to have great, FAMILY FRIENDLY, entertainment of a far higher caliber than the ‘Bottom Of The Dumpster’ dreck we see today.

Could you imagine taking a lion that is no tin a cage into a TV studio today? Just thinking of the possible lawsuits if something went wrong would cause some major heart attacks for the insureance people.

I remember watching all of those programs except Kentucky Jones. Probably because either (a) I was 4 years old at the time and more than likely was sent to bed after Flipper; or (b) it was up against Gilligan’s Island and Lawrence Welk (I remember my my mom liked Gilligan but my grandmother liked Mr. Welk).

Unfortunately, "THE OUTER LIMITS" was no match for Jackie Gleason (and "FLIPPER"). ABC eliminated it in January 1965 in favor of "THE KING FAMILY SHOW".

Sue Ann Langdon's appearance on Gleason's 'American Scene Magazine' was a on-off gig playing Alice Kramden on 10/20/62. Apparently she and Gleason didn't get along.

Art Carney wasn't available for several seasons after the two "Honeymooners" sketches he did in the fall of 1962. Jackie wouldn't do them if Carney wasn't around. Fortunately, he agreed to appear on a regular basis, starting in the fall of 1966.

Jackie appeared at 8pm(et) on Saturdays from 1952 through 1957. In the 1960's, he kicked off CBS' Saturday night schedule at 7:30; he preferred appearing early in the evening, when the whole family could watch.

You should download their version of the song “One Toke over the Line.” Not kidding it’s hilarious! Apparently Mr. Welk either didn’t know the meaning of the song or they tweaked it a bit. The singers in their wholesome country outfits made it more hilarious!

The "SS Minnow" on Gilligan's Island was named after the FCC Chairman (updated) who said TV was a "Vast Wasteland." Same guy got PBS their Broadcast license for all that "quality" programming no one watches!
