I'd argue RX 6700 non XT is even more efficient. It's using less power than a 6600 while being as fast or faster than a 6650 XT.

@@raresmacovei8382 Rough numbers, after limiting the power on both so that 6800 pulls 40% more power (tgp, not just core), i think 6800 would still produce more than 40% frames making it more efficient. Sadly you can't do that on Windows without using a custom powerplay table as stock you are limited to -8% power limit.

Ive had a 6800 for about 2 years now. It normally hovers around 185w. I play all games in 4k maxed out, except cyberpunk. I don't go over 60fps. I don't use RT, I genuinely prefer it without. Most recently I have owned an RX480, RTX3070, RTX 3080 and the RX6800. The 6800 is the best I have owned for stability and performance per watt. I much prefer AMDs modern driver contols compared to Nvidias windows XP design too. An RX6800 at 4k on my 49 inch curved QLED with Radeon image sharpening at 80% is a thing to behold, particularly in older games. I was playing Rainbow six Vegas like this recently and the card was drawing about 40w Haha. Awesome card.

I picked up the RX6800 OC new a couple of weeks back for 475$ US on sale...it's a beast and hammers out great FPS in every game I play paired with my 5800x3d. MW2 2022 is hitting an easy 144fps frame cap I set using the in-game settings with blur and DoF off. I'm also getting well over 100fps in Cyberpunk2077 with generally High settings and RT off. I expect to get years of great gaming with this GPU.

I think the reason the price isn't lower is the die size of the GP. It's a cut down version of their largest die. Larger chips are more expensive to produce and I think they are really trying to keep the price at a certain level. I bought this card (I LOVE it) after I waited for it to hit MSRP maybe about 5 months ago and have watched the price and even Hardware Unboxed has done a lot of price coverage. This card has depreciated the LEAST of all 6000 series cards. It's crazy. Epic card though because when I got it for $580 US the 3070 was still like $900 or higher. and it even beats the 3070 Ti, except RTX stuff. But I went to AMD from Nvidia cause the prices are just too much man. Nvidia has amazing products but they are just stupidly greedy and that's really ugly to me as an enthusiast. It feels disrespectful. AMD is killing it in value on GPUs right now.

haha i did exactly the same. i picked up my 6800 about 7 months ago. at the time it was a no brainer bang for buck compared with the 3070. i got a founders eddition which does like to run a little hot under extreme stress up to 95c on junction temp. but i found setting the voltage to 95% and adjusting the fan curve it runs 10-20c cooler depending on workload and as a byproduct it even gets better benchmark results as it acts a little like an undervolt. i think our cards will age a little better than the 3070 with its 8gb vram.
@misterbrickest
@misterbrickest Жыл бұрын
Value wise it's a no brainer. The 6800 being significantly faster for HALF of the price of the 2080ti, the previous generation Flagship, that went for $1200. And the 6800 has 50% MORE VRAM than the 2080ti. Nvidia got Greedy with the 3070 VRAM amount. But they gave the 3060 12gb of VRAM? The just wanted planned obsolescence in the 3070 so they would want to buy a newer card ASAP. The 6800 paired with 16GB was perfect in my opinion. I am still blown away at its performance and honestly it holds up in some RTX titles as well. I have it paired with the 5800X3D recently and these together are fucking nuts. My old ryzen 5 4500 budget 6core was holding it back. In some cases (Farcry5 at 1440p max settings) my framerate literally DOUBLED. AMD is fucking killing it.

kind of correct, but the more to the point conclusion is that you don't want to sell a $550 card when you can sell a $650 instead (MSRP anyway, both the 6800 and XT sell well under those prices nowadays). The 6800 xt is already cut down Navi 21, with 8 out of 80 CUs disabled. TSMC N7 yields pretty well, so having one SKU at full die and one SKU cut down by 10% should catch almost all of the dies that come out of the foundry. The 6800 on the other hand is cut down by 25%, with 60 enabled CUs. so why, then, would you want to charge less for a 25% cut down die knowing that _very_ few of those 6800's ACTUALLY have 20 faulty CUs? The 6800 mostly exists because the 6700 xt underperformed against the 3070 at launch, and the 6800 xt was $650, so AMD needed a competitor to the immensely popular $500 3070. Not a lot of these guys were produced relative to other N21 SKUs, so it's something of an abandoned stepchild in the AMD product stack
@kieranmandy9987
@kieranmandy9987 Жыл бұрын
The GPU die is the same between 6900xt, 6800xt and 6800. Basically only dies that couldn't be used for the higher models would be binned into this model. As production continued and yields improved on TSMC 7nm there was no financial reason to make many of these, unfortunately.

This card made a lot of sense when it came out. Not enough cards slide into this this upper mid tier range nowadays. Its either massively overpriced top tier or mass sales of low end cards. The reason why AMD doesn't want this card to be more popular is explained through one simple fact. It is using a cut down Navi 21 chip. At this point in time TSMCs 7nm should yield so extremely good that there will not be a lot of defective chips on a wafer. So if AMD makes the 6800 non-XT more popular by pricing it more agressivly they would just shoot themselves in the foot, since they suddenly need to use pefectly fine Navi 21 chips and cut them down to a 6800 non-XT when it makes much more sense to sell that same chip as an 6800xt, 6900xt or 6950xt. So the reason in short is: Because the 6800 non-XT makes no financial sense for AMD any more!

The reason it costs the way it does is because this card was originally made to repurpose salvage dies. The tsmc 7nm process has improved so much that there are barely any defects in the dies produced. Hence there is no need to build a 6800. AMD would rather build the 6800 XT and 6900 XT which have higher margins than this cost reduced version.

I bought a asus tuf variant of this brand new for $353 (converted to usd) from a used retailer, I knew it was brand new because every film is still intact, and they sometimes get gpu's that are new but is still sold as 2nd hand because they are pull outs from korea, closing stores or miners. The 6800 was a great card, smaller cooler, lower power use. The problem is the BIOS is LOCKED, to ruin overclocking and sell the XT variant. Combine that with the shortage, and the 6700xt was more reasonable. AMD didn't want to sell 6800s, they wanted to market segment and upsell. The base 6800 was clearly too good, and needed to be BIOS locked and segmented. It was more about filling a gap than making a good card with a two slot cooler.

My RX 6800 is able to do GPU 2400Mhz, VRAM 2100Mhz at 885 mv and a temperature of 60C at 210w. I have an ASUS TUF gaming card and they use the same cooler on the 6800 as the XT and 6900. The result is ridiculously good cooling. Other manufacturers use the 6750 cooler on the 6800 and theirs run hot. I use OCCT software for stability tests because its free and it will give you actual windows and software errors to troubleshoot. My system can run with no errors at its current state. Also, I use the standard VRAM timings because I gain almost 8c and 30w with it enabled for negligible performance gains. The RX 6800 is insanely underrated.

I'd say the RX 6800 is more of a QHD card (the stronger kind) than a 4K one. Even with the RX 6600 (which I own) it is possible to play some games in 4K over 60 fps, but not everything and not at max (it must be on the lowest settings). For now, I'm looking to get it and the XT variant, but realistically the RX 6800 should now be around 400 euros and the XT around 450. Those are already over 2 years old cards. And since the prices are not there - I'll probably wait for the RX 7800 XT :D

Hello friend! Thanks for the video. Please be aware that ray tracing increases CPU load and your 10400F is definitely restricting your RX 6800.
@extremegraphicstech
@extremegraphicstech Жыл бұрын
Yes it does, on spiderman it does, but not on the others one, since I have used this same system to test Nvidia cards and there is a lot more performance on RT when it comes to raytracing. For example Dying LIght 2 on a i7 6700k on nvidia card with rt I get over 80fps so the 10400f is not a bottleneck for that game in rt. If you check this video: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/a7dpicmT2tiZgX0.html You can see yes RT needs more CPU for some games, but also the AMD implementation of RT is even worse.

When I bought, the difference between the XT and non-XT version was like 100USD. I decided on the non-XT version because of the lower power consumption (didn't want to upgrade PSU) and the better efficiency per watt according to the reviews. I have a 4k panel, but game mostly in ultrawide aspect at 1440p because I like the extra field of view. Also, none of the stuff I game is AAA, so no need for me to go higher. With my usual games this card runs below 40% usage and hovers around 60 degrees barely getting above 120 watts. It's a keeper.

I´m planning to get this card but i´m in the same case as you: I don´t want to upgrade my psu ( corsair 600w) ¿do you think 600 W is enough for the rx 6800 ?
@dienekes6420
@dienekes6420 Жыл бұрын
@@MrElokin It really depends on how much the rest of your system uses, like if you have a power hungry cpu. I think the minimum requirement for the 6800 is 650w. 600w may be enough for regular use and you could get away without it being an issue, but If you want to keep it on the safe side, I'd just underclock or limit power consumption on cpu/gpu. If it was me, I'd just buy a 750/850 psu in your situation.

I bought about a month ago an Asus TUF RX 6800 which I am pairing with a Ryzen 5800x. I play at 1440. Don't play any of the games in this video but does great in Shadows of the Tomb Raider, Horizon: Zero Dawn, and Resident Evil 2 (remake). I do have Cyberpunk 2077 but have not played it yet. Shopping for video cards is actually pretty complicated both on New Egg and Amazon. Many of the cards are not actually sold by New Egg / Amazon but are sold by a third party retailer. You don't know if you are actually buying a used or refurbished card. As well, many of the manufacturers of the cards are not the trusted brands. If you were shopping from New Egg itself, at the time of purchase, the Asus RX 6800 was the lowest priced RX 6800 at around $500. The RX 6800x was around $620 I think. I also believe that was for an Asrock. It was not worth it for me the extra $120 for the performance difference. I actually could not instal it at first because my case was too small for the card.

Just managed to snatch a used 6800 for the price of a new 3060, and I'm just loving it. Quite the upgrade from my old T600, and so efficient! As far as I know, the crazy pricing is because AMD barely produces any 6800s at all. Both the 6800 XT and the 6800 are cut-down versions of Navi 21 (the RDNA2 top silicon die, used in the 6900 XT and 6950 XT), and it seems that TSMC's yields are good enough that they don't really need to disable most Navi 21 dies that much, so they all become 6900 XTs or 6800 XTs, which theoretically carry higher prices and higher margins. That worked well for them during the GPU crypto-drought (if everything sells out, why disable dies that you could sell for more money?), but in a normal market it doesn't make any sense.
