Former first-round NFL running back Ryan Mathews is coaching at El Capitan High School, living on a 20-acre ranch in San Diego and raising his son, Royce. He sits down with Annie to talk about life after the NFL, depression, his time with the Chargers and Eagles and more.

Ryan Mathews was one of my favorite players from my alma mater Fresno State. Never forget the time he was in the NFL and I was at a Bulldog game and he came down the ramp after the team went on the field and I yelled out "RYAN!!" He laughed so hard and came over and gave me a hug. A TRUE champion, and probably had the Toughest situation coming in to fill LT's shoes at San Diego. Loved his hard running style, NEVER went down on a first hit. Hope the best for him and his son.

Ryan Matthews was a beast. I loved watching him play for the eagles, his running style is aesthetically pleasing. Was unstoppable, only injuries kept him out of games. To me he’s up there with McCoy & Westbrook as my favourite eagles RB’s. He runs so hard and physical and always initiated contact, he just refused to avoid unnecessary contact and it shortened a brilliant career.

He only had a 5 to 6 year career dam he had one or two good seasons short career though.

Matthews was a truck. Could have been more but injuries cemented his fate unfortunately. Good to see him helping the youngins get on track. Super player and superb character. God bless...

Really? Doing what if you don’t mind me asking? NFL writers talk about his after NFL career like a mystery he’s not on social media and just is unheard of. Great player cut short.
