Staff Sergeant Ryan Pitts, US Army Airborne Veteran, served two tours in Afghanistan. Here he talks about his actions, and those of his comrades, during the Battle of Wanat, which led to his receiving the Medal of Honor. Narration by Kiefer Sutherland.

I met this man last night at Red Rock Gala here at Fort Sill 19 May 2023. His story was incredible and sad for his brothers that passed that faithful day.

SGT Pitts was a great role model for us 'younger' soldiers and always set a good example for us to follow. As the battle slowed down and we started to hear the stories of how the brave men of 2nd platoon fought, it was no surprise to hear that they gave everything for each other. It was an honor to serve along these brave men. RIP Sky Soldiers. Miss you guys.

Every time I hear a MOH recipient's ceremony, or read the citation for the action, I am profoundly humbled, and wonder if I could have been as brave and skilled at that moment.

It was my honor to meet Sgt. Pitts. I was attending a funeral service of an other MOH recipient from WWII Sgt. Currey.

Cpl. Bogar manned a machine gun returning enemy fire to the death...I believe he should have received a medal as well

As an forward observer, you have to put your weapon down and turn your radio into whatever firepower you can get. FISTers are the eyes of the king.

@@toasteddingus6925 well for starters, I haven't heard from him in 10 years (I'm 16), we have different last names, and he ghosted my father too lol. But joining the military seems to run in the family, because two of my other brothers are in the military, my uncle was, and I'm planning on joining after graduation lol
