I lived in SC while Ryan was doing his thing in the late 2000s. Met him a couple times and my wife worked with his best friend. His dad was always super cool when we’d cross paths around town. They’re all very cool and down to earth. The first time we met him, my wife and I were talking to his friend at a restaurant and Ryan came up and waited for a break in the convo: “Hi, I’m Ryan. I’m Tony’s friend. Nice to meet you”. He was probably the most recognizable skater on earth at that point.

@@TheJohnBrowningGunClub I cry a few times every month. It's very healing. I heard there are hormones that are triggered in your body whenever you feel any emotion (specific hormones for each emotion) so to try to bury or surpress crying would mean that those hormones stay sealed up inside your body, which is probably not good. Better to let it out through tears.

Ryan was doing big tricks, tech tricks, and sick tricks since he was a little grom. Real deal all the way! Ryan Sheckler is definitely one of the dopest pro skaters around I've ever seen. It doesn't surprise me how much hate he gets from people who envy him but other than skateboarding I have seen him do many incredible things in life as he was able to show what a good person he is. I'm very proud of his accomplishments he has achieved throughout his career as well through the mess he's been in with drinking. I didn't even know at first he had an addiction to alcohol when I saw how different looks now and it's good he was able to get himself straightened out as he's clean and sober. Props to Ryan for still skating and having the life he has now being married and a father to his kids.

I loved Ryan's show. Getting home from working a grindy job and seeing a little dude blow up with the sport and love of my youth stoked me out for the kid who deserved it because he was legit RIPPING sht older pros weren't doing! I came from a really traumatic family life which is neither a child's fault or under their control and it can be so embarrassing and heartbreaking when it feels like your family is falling apart so i cant imagine what that must've been like having it happen cameras rolling. Ryan know a lot of homelifes in America look less than ideal and your experience also gave kids from broken homes who otherwise feel alone the support and reality check that even someone who has the ultimate kids dream life isn't all puppy dogs and cotton candy man. That's a better example than if your life was picture perfect 24/7!!! Maybe the most important lesson kids could take from the show! Also good job finding sobriety successfully. Another massive achievement you dont get enough credit for💯🙏

Ryan confirmed my old thoughts about representation of skateboarding. Videogames represented skateboarding to me when I was a little kid. When Skate 3 came out in 2010, the industry started slowly dying. No dope games about it anymore. Tony Hawk's series was also finished as a gold era. Millions of fans asked for decade about decent well developed videogame about skateboarding, it had no result at all. I live outside of US and for me skateboarding lives in US mostly nowadays, not all around the world anymore.

I didn’t realize that so many people were anti Ryan. I personally always liked him. The people I hung out with liked him. The girls I knew liked him. Only a few of the “true core” skaters didn’t. And those sorts of guys claimed that he was to main stream and that people who liked him were more or less posers and not true skaters.....even tho I’m still here, Ryan’s still here. And the “core” guys ain’t. (So who was the real poser? And who was really the “core” skater? 🤔) Back then people like that said that they were skate or die, true to the bone. And “true skaters” ...and now those same guys are claiming they grew up and matured. And now they act like somehow that’s how they are better than guys like me who still do. (🤔 again, so who was the “true skateboarder” and who was the “poser”?) in their head there is always a reason that they will be better than me. However they always want to use somebody else as an example of why they are better. Guys like that never learned how to stand and shine on their own. People like that always want to use somebody else as a steppingstone, or as a comparison to show how much they shine in comparison. You don’t have to like every skater. As well as you don’t have to like every skate company. (Or retail shop) but that doesn’t mean that you should ignore or ridicule their existence. At one time it was all about slamming a professional skater you didn’t like. And these days it’s about slamming a manufacturer or retail shop you don’t like. it’s OK to personally and doors or back up a person or a company. But honestly.... only posers are jumping on the bandwagon of popular opinion. Especially popular opinions about what’s too main stream or anti-core. And only the true course skateboarders don’t care what equipment that you ride, or which professionals inspire you. A true chorus skateboarder only cares that you’re out there and advancing your own personal skills....period

That gap to road is massive and he was small as hell at that time. I think MTV needed Ryan more than Ryan needed MTV. People like Ryan, Bam, Cole, Hawk were so massive in the early 2000s. Skateboarding was at its peak. I miss those days man. I can't remember the last time I've seen a pair of Falcons or Adios in store. I have made my fair share of mistakes but never treated someone badly who didn't deserve it. He wasn't smoking weed every day, wasn't wearing girl pants, wasn't cursing out his mom, or getting into trouble. Just a clean-cut, extremely good skateboarder. So naturally, you hated on him. He actually tried to live up to those stereotypes after the show and ended up in rehab. Yes, a lot of losers hated on him for no reason. I never did. I played other sports skating wa as nt my life. Maybe that's why? I loved him, P-Rod, and Nyjah. I bet people hate Nyjah right now. He is just doing too well. Hasn't been to rehab or gotten in trouble. Must be a sellout, right?

He's a great kid and was a great kid. Say what you want but he was a youngster in the spotlight and came out of it with his head still on his shoulders. Respect

Not really a "great kid" he was okay. Don't blame him for it getting to his head. He was top of the sport, world famous, and could do anything he wanted. We watched him grow up, you can watch all the times he did shady stuff. But you can also see when he finally grew out of that and the skateboard scene welcomed him back. The problem child now is Nyjah. He's doing the same thing, but his ego 10x worse

The skate scene is so fucking hypocritical. They all want to become big names in the Industrie and get sponsors and make money and as soon as someone gets the opportunity and goes for it he becomes a sellout!

I have so much more respect for Ryan. I wasn't a fan when I was a kid because of the reality tv stuff and all but man, I feel like such an asympathetic jerk in retrospect. I would have never fallen into any of those extremes he talked about but I'm remorseful for not giving him the respect he deserved. In the end, he came out on top. We've got a lot to learn from him

Personally I think his biggset mistake was when he lied about doing the bs flip down El Toro. The MTV thing wasn't good, but I get how no one his age could have known what they where in for. Lying about having done something is a major sin in skateboarding and he knew it. I still think it is stupid to hate on him for any of those things, cause most people will never know how it feels to stand under that kind of pressure that young in life. He is one of the best skaters ever no doubt, and it seems like he has learned a lot since his teenage years. I wish him the best and I hope he rolls away from a lot of rad tricks in the future and shows us the footage.

Ryan had a lot of growing pains, as we all do. The big problem is that his was "televised" which definitely makes it more traumatic. At least a lot of his hate was because of others jealousy towards his success. It made him more humble and God wouldnt have given him that flak if he couldnt have handled it, these are the lessons that humble us as human beings. Without pain and suffering, we would never have empathy towards our fellow man. Keep on keeping brother. I was always a big fan of Ryan even though he was a few years younger then me. I always thought he was a bad ass little kid and you ALWAYS root for the underdog in America. Thats our past time.

I never really watched his show but I definitely remember a time where he was seen as sort of a kook or douche bc of it. I never paid much attention to any of it bc that mtv main stream scene was so alien to me at the time. I've always loved sheks tho. He just needs to bring it down to earth
