There are lots of reasons that Chiclets has had the continued success it's having, but above all else (whether intentionally or accidentally), they filled a gap in the hockey media market. Hockey commentary has traditionally been so buttoned up. HNIC, TSN panels, 32 thoughts, even local sports radio, tries to be so professional and avoid controversy. I think that's why Don Cherry was once beloved and ultimately fired- he was one of few that spoke his mind and never held back (even when at times he definitely should have lol). Spittin Chiclets gives you the feeling of being with friends and just saying how you feel. They aren't overly worried someone will take a soundclip out of context and use it to paint them as jerks. And unlike an Elliot Friedman / Bob Mckenzie (who are legends btw) they don't claim to be particularly knowledgeable. That makes it way more accessible for casual fans. At the end of the day, I think of Chiclets like a sitcom. It isn't going to be the most accurate or most compelling content, but it's great for a laugh and you feel like you're friends with the characters even though you've never met them.

Ive never replied this to a KZfaq comment but, that was the most well said, well thought out analysis I’ve read on the internet.

They’ve remained humble too. Was able to meet the whole crew in Orlando, such good dudes. Whit shook my hand looked me in the eye and said thanks for coming out which is such a small thing but totally unnecessary to say even if he didn’t mean it, made my week seeing them treat everyone there with so much respect. Biz was the same way.
