We braved the hot Ocotillo August sun and took the railroad cart out to try out the new wheels and improvements we made. The wheels worked perfectly! At 4:25 we did have a little crash but other than that it was a great day.

Here from shared video on Reddit. I’m in awe! This looks so awesome! Love the drone footage with music! Make a kit and put it up on eBay. Or just the instructions and sell those! Looks like an engine, plus another $100 in random parts. What’s total cost on this? (I know you had to make the wheels and couldn’t buy those, but they have a cost too for sure)
@ryanrandomness2 жыл бұрын
I think the whole thing was maybe 500 bucks. Engine $100, wood $100, wheels maybe $250. Axles $100, seats $10, pillow blocks and throttle few bucks. That's really it.

How are you so sure there isn't some messed up tracks just ahead of you? Are you droning ahead to have a look-see? Some of those little bridges would kinda freak me out. Also, are rubber wheels a possibility? And (one more...promise) how far can you go knowing how far you have to travel back?
@GooglyEyedJoe2 жыл бұрын
Considering the speed they're going, even if there was some damaged tracks that had broken in half or something, I doubt it'd throw the whole thing forward or that they'd go flying off or something, they might slide forward like they did at 4:20 but I suppose you could fix something like that by hammering on a front plank to rest your feet against so you won't slide forward. Also presumably it wouldn't be too dangerous to leap off the cart at those speeds if you saw a big problem in front and couldn't slow down in time, especially if the surrounding area is mostly sandy.
@ryanrandomness2 жыл бұрын
I've been down this track before this day so I know what to expect but you never really know. Anything can happen. I keep my speed down to where I know I could stop and keep my eyes down track. The bridges can be freaky. Have you seen Carrizo Gorge? The wheels are softer polyurethane. Very strong, smooth, and quiet.
@ryanrandomness2 жыл бұрын
As far as distance I really don't know. This track here I rode for about 13 miles uphill and then on the way back I shut the engine off and coast back and actually have to slow down.
