That should have came with a chisel tip as well. I found a P3100 soldering station when I dumped Home Depots compactor yesterday and a nest home security system with camera still sealed in the box brand new. Blows me away the stuff they throw away. Good review thanks.

The fact that he tested the unit by "cold soldering" the splice represents the overall level of expertise he and his channel represent, which is to say, novice.

Thx for the video!! Just got my soldering iron from Direct tools outlet today for $20. I see some negative reviews on Ryobi but I have a ton of tools from Ryobi similar to you. I have some of the old blue tools that still work fine. I’ve only had one issue with a Ryobi tool. A bad trigger on a blower but overall they have been great tools and I do side jobs and have for 20 years

Replacement Tips are available on the Home Depot Website. You should get a tip cleaner. I am considering purchasing the hybrid soldering station in the near future because I do a lot of electronic work and I'd prefer to have one with a temperature control.

Cool iron, but two things...When soldering hold the iron on the work and let the work melt the solder and vinyl electrical tape doesn't work as heat shrink tubing.

The tip being "hot" is an understatement.

You were wondering how long a battery would last. The iron puts out a continuous 40 watts, which would only be the case if the tip remained in contact with something massive and cold the entire time it was on. 40 watts divided by 18 volts nominal works out to just over 2 Amperes current draw from the battery which is low enough to expect there is little energy loss to internal battery resistance or transmission loss. Using your 4Ah battery, you can take the watt hour rating, 72 Wh, and divide by 40 watts, the watt units cancel and you're left with 72/40th hours or 1.8 hours. That's 1 hour and 0.8 times 60 minutes per hour, hours cancel so 48 minutes. At continuous duty cycle peak power, a 72 watt hour 4.0 Ah battery will last about 1 hour and 48 minutes. At the low amp draw, you might lose 5% of the battery power to waste from wiring and battery internal resistance so an hour 42 minutes should be possible. In regular use, where full power is not required to maintain tip heat all the time, it should last several times longer.

Nice review. I'm looking at getting the hybrid soldering iron. I already have a lot of 20v other branded tools, but eventually may get into the Ryobi 18v line due to all the various options. So, a hybrid soldering iron would be a good start until I have need of a battery option.

I timed that heat up on the video it was just around 30 seconds which is astonishingly fast.

You might have to take apart the charger and remove circuitry in order to get the full output from the battery.
