Ryobi has some really cool tools on the market, but this new ryobi item is not a power tool, it's actually the all new Ryobi 18v bug zapper, and it works amazing.

Way too expensive. I already have plenty of the portable ryobi inverters so I can go and spend $15 for a bug zapper and plug it into that and carry it wherever I want so the only thing this really offers is a portable light and a carry handle which doesn't seem too strong - I'll buy this when they have it down to$39.99!

I am invested in the Ridgid line due to inheriting tools after a dude died when I was starting out. Honestly Ryobi holds up in the trades (know a few that use industrially/used in basement remodels for years) and I would have liked to be invested in that line for the sheer number of products they offer (including concrete mixers!) at inexpensive prices. I am happy with my Ridgid regardless.

I bought one about a year ago. It works! It works as a lantern! It works as a bug ATTRACTOR!!! This brings the bugs from the far reaches. It shocks em and they fall down to the tray. This is where it gets interesting. Open the tray and larger bugs recover from the initial shock and fly off. Don't waste your money. You buy this you better stock up on Cutter or Off insect repellent. Mosquitoes are attracted to carbon dioxide not lights. Sorry I bought this one.

Mosquitoes are not attracted to ultraviolet (UV) light in the same way as other insects, and UV light traps and bug zappers are not very effective for mosquito control. In fact, some studies have shown that night-biting mosquitoes avoid UV and blue light during the day. However, some UV-LED light traps have been shown to capture nocturnal mosquitoes.

Anyone that goes camping or tailgating will appreciate this toy as much as the guy working in the garage late at night and getting eaten by skeeters and other biters. I have a lot of house flies for some reason got this to carry around the house to problem areas that might not have a convenient outlet to plug an AC unit into. Haven't caught any bugs yet but I have faith and the lantern feature is also useful. hopefully if you contact ryobi they'll send you a new handle or heck you could make your own from a strip of leather use the original as a template.

So it runs for 4 hours on a 4ah battery , is that running at max light plus zapper ? I have a couple smaller rechargeable units (same functions) that I have had for a couple years now that will run the bug zapper by itself for about 24 hours on a charge and these things are maybe 1/8 the size of the Ryobi . The ultraviolet LEDs are much smaller but they seem to work pretty well I normally put them on opposite sides of my camp and I have few bugs plus I leave them on all night since they provide some light just with the UV . The Ryobi would probably be better if the bug zapper alone can run all night .
