THIS is why the U.S.A. & Germany have been micro-managing (a) Ukraine's ability to strike deeper into occupied territory, (b) strike deeper into Russian territory, (c) the number of Ukrainian pilots & ground crews trained for the F-16, (d) when the F-16s arrive, and (e) the number of F-16s available to Ukraine. The truth is that Russian military stockpiles, artillery batteries, logistics, troop concentrations, air bases & naval bases are *absolute sitting ducks* , and if Ukraine was given everything it needed to *defeat* the Russia & *liberate ALL of its sovereign teritory* , the Russian forces in occupied Ukraine (including Crimea) would be handed a rapidly crushed. (...I will leave you to ponder why the U.S.A., Germany, and some politicians in a few other allied nations don't want this to happen...)

S-500 is designed to be ballistic missile interceptor, like American THAAD/GBI. 5th gen fighter jets are S-400's job, but I would think that it can't do jack against it as well, as S-400 got rodgered by a big, fat target like ATACMS before.

We all live with lowered expectations, just that we don't all spend 600mil to get there 🙃

@@damianketchamIt depends on the recon. Ukraine would prioritize the radar first, command vehicle second, and then the launchers. Given each ATACMs is worth at most $1 million, it’s worth several of these to take out the whole battery.

The launcher isn't the special bit (it's the same as that used on the S-400 AFAIK). The special (and expensive) bits of the S-500 are the radar and command vehicle. The radar is reported as being destroyed and the command vehicle damaged.
