„Pamiętasz była jesień” ("Do you remember it was autumn") is a song from a 1958 movie "Pożegnania" ("Farewells"), with music by Lucjan Kaszycki and lyrics by Andrzej Czekalski and Ryszard Pluciński.
Part of a segment of the newsreel about preparations for the World Festival of Youth and Students in Vienna.
Sława Przybylska - vocal
Roman „Gucio” Dyląg - double bass
Andrzej Dąbrowski - drums
Andrzej Kurylewicz - piano
How Andrzej Dąbrowski remembers the festival:
"I remember my first trip to the West... 1959, I was already playing with Kurylewicz and Warska. We went to represent Poland at the youth and student festival in Vienna. (...) There were orders: what we were allowed to do, what we were not allowed to do. As a representative of a communist state, we received directives that we were not allowed to participate in any events other than ours. And there was a whole movement in Vienna to organize anti-festival concerts by the capitalists. We illegally escaped from our activities and went to the concert of Ella Fitzgerald with Oscar Pettiford on bass, at the Stadthalle in Vienna. That was the first time I heard it. And we're talking about a time when there was no security yet, I somehow found myself in her dressing room and took her autograph. I can't find it today, unfortunately, but it was an amazing concert."
