Becasue our constitution which is written in 1950 gives absolute power to inact Laws in PArlaiament which 140 crores people should follow .. congress if come to power will intact law -- They can do that .. Whether it will stand the crutiny of constittion or not is different issue -- Assm Government had passed IMDT act in 1983 of so which was quashed by SC in December 2014 as unconstituional .. The point iis from 1984 till 2014 , that act was in force .. Hence Congress can do anything

Why are we fighting shy to bell the cat. The Congress govt in Karnataka has already made it very clear as to how it intends to appropriate the wealth of private citizens, and ostensibly redistribute it among certain sections of society. Any simple enquiry, not necessarily a detailed survey, will uncover the fact that thise who generate wealth (within the legal framework) are mostly Sanatanis, Jains, Sikhs, Parsis and the like. And thise who leach off others' wealth and are constantly on a damage, destruction and then sponging off the rest are the followers of islam. More importantly Congress will take money in the name of these freeloaders, give them 5% of the collection and the smuggle out the remaining 95% to italy via Switzerland, the Carribbean, Mauritius etc. With active connivance of the CCP and the ISI.

If someone earns more than 5 crore, as per present income tax slabs he will end up paying 39% tax on income exceeding 10 lacs (old regime) or 15 lacs ( new regime). Practically he ends up paying about 39% tax on his total income. So his income post tax is about 61%. On his death, if 55% inheritance tax is collected by the government, his net remaining balance will be 27.45% of his original earnings. So during his life if he has earned say Rs.100/-, he will leave about Rs.28/- for his legal heirs.

Inheritance Tax is a very good Idea if and only if you apply it only for the top 20 percent of the wealthiest people. I mean there should be a cutoff mark on the accumulated wealth to qualify for the inheritance tax. It should cover the top 20 percent of the wealthiest people. S.Gurumurthy is right. Sam Pitroda has to compare apple to apple not scenario in US to scenario in India. This demand by Sam is going to harm Congress's Hindu vote for sure. Wealth tax is only above a base lcut off level in any country. In India only the top 1% will be wealth taxable. DEFINITELY NO Politician or The super Rich will want this.

Unfortunately in taxation matters we are given examples of U.S.A. a highly develope country with per capita income and per person productivity is several time higher. They get maximum FDI in form of trained personal and monopoly exports. Large sum of Indian wealth is in Foriegn banks, which is used for their development at our cost. Money in Swiss bank and Singapore is employed for their population, and we are searching our empty treasure to loot. First bring back all these Indian owned Money at least for productivity and we become sufficient rich then think of Equity. God has been equitable in many spheres and not artificial wealth there is a design to use wealth given to everyone for best service

Though these are "Yes Master " comments one has to worry if in the event of Congress getting into power once again and if they implement inheritance law in line with what's practiced in US as mentioned by SP in India this will eventually break our socio-cultural heritage and the bonds in the family will disappear - looks like some or even many group are tragetting for that.
