@Bev Mathews no idea now. Installed it 18 years ago and haven't had to touch it since.. When I bump my motor up from 95" to whatever it might become (103", 113", or 124") i will note the jets and report back. Hopefully that will happen in the next year. I do know the G is on the edge of being too big for a 95" with a Yost power tube,, good heads, and .590 lift gear driven cams. I can tell she needs more cubic inches to get the best out of the carb.

I've got an '89 evo with an s&s super e when at idle at 1000 rpm it'll drop to 500 rpm or lower I'll give it a little throttle the rpm will pick up then do the same thing again, what could be the problem
@SSCycleInc
@SSCycleInc 8 жыл бұрын
There are several things that could be causing that kind of problem. First, most likely would be a sticky throttle cable that doesn't actually allow the throttle to close all the way on a regular basis. When it does close all the way, the idle drops. It could also be an intermittent manifold leak. Same deal. When it's leaking the idle is higher, when it seals up the idle drops. If you have converted the ignition to points, it could be sticky advance weights. If you can't chase the problem down, it would be best to call our tech support line at 608-627-1497. Those guys will be able to get if figured out pronto!

Is there a difference in how the carb is tuned if a large cam is installed? It's a 2001 super stock113 with a 520 lift. Also what's the difference between a "g" and a super "g" if any.
@SSCycleInc
@SSCycleInc 7 жыл бұрын
Changing cams will generally require re-jetting of the carb. I may also require changes to ignition timing since it may change the amount of cylinder pressure. The Super E has a 1-7/8" throat and the Super G has a 2-1/16" throat. Super E carbs are recommended for engines up to 100 cid, and the Super G is recommended for 100 cid and greater. Racers sometimes use the larger carb on smaller engines since top end horsepower is more important that low or midrange throttle response.

There is now. The motor runs....I checked for manifold leaks by spraying carb cleaner around....did not affect running....I don't know if I'm lean or rich. 70/29.5...after warming up...idling @ 1000....air mix doesn't seem to do anything...if I blip the throttle...no matter where I have the accelerator pump set, I get fuel mist back out the throat and it stumbles...if I bring the rpm up to about 2000...then blip it from there and let go...I get a pop and fire from exhaust. @SSCycleInc
@SSCycleInc 9 жыл бұрын
Brandon Dilly I believe you are talking about the small hose that connects to the fitting on the underside of the bowl, just behind the accelerator pump housing. That is an overflow tube that should simply be routed behind the pushrods and down behind the engine. That's just there in case the carb were to overflow, the gas would not spill out on the bike and especially the exhaust system! Sounds like you may have an accelerator pump problem. We'd suggest that you call our tech line at 608-627-8324. Those guys will get you cranking again!

stevenminix Something I discovered while tuning the Shorty E on my Pan (major exhaust change): With the engine cutting out on a test run, pulling the enrichener up just a tad smoothed it out. I'd say that's a pretty good indication she was running (very) lean.
@CapnDrift
@CapnDrift 9 жыл бұрын
CapnDrift Oh, and also... after running the highway with the enrichener pulled I learned if I left it up while passing through town the engine would begin to fart and snort. Pushing it down (closed) cured the problem. Therefore, it only makes sense to conclude the intermediate circuit -was not- lean, as well. Butt tuning at its finest. ;^)

Question: S&S e series carb. On sporty 1200 with 80 hp and 28 pilot jet now went to 1275 big bore kit and went to 29 pilot jet but bike still runs with air/fuel screw seated so I dropped to 28 an then to 27 and same thing. Seated air/fuel screw and still runs. . WhAt am I missing? Maybe one thing is I don’t believe I was at or below 1,000rpm was more like 1,200 rpm. I’ll pull carb off an clean it. Maybe float needle isn’t seating and just rushing fuel in. But nothing out my over full line. Idk. I Just know that if I had dyno it with a 28 pilot an was good and then went to the 1275 kit then I shouldn’t be going down in pilot size so there’s no sense in trying a smaller pilot jet. I just think I’m missing something foolish..

I installed an S&S Super E on my '92 FatBoy. The bike runs better than it ever has but the vibration at 3200rpm/70mph is intolerable. With the OEM CV carb, it was bad but tolerable. Another owner went from a Mikuni back to a CV carb and greatly reduced his high rpm vibration. The only thing I can think is jetting. Can rich jetting increase vibration? I hate to start tinkering with it as it runs so good with no backfiring or sneezing. But if it needs to be leaned out a little to smooth it out, I'm all for it. Thanks!

S&S Cycle, Inc, The ceramic is almost white with black around the metal and down inside. Electrodes are clean. I have a pic of the plugs. The 80” Evo is bone stock. I put the stock FatBoy exhaust back on with the plugs knocked out of the mufflers. I installed the Super E with it’s factory installed .0295 and .072 jets. It starts easily with almost no warmup required, like it might be a tad rich. Around town it’s very smooth. 60mph and up it starts sounding like it’s under a heavy load and vibration gets worse as I reach 70mph. The video makes me wonder if an 88” engine runs perfect on a .028 and .066, my stock 80” might be rich on the main at .072. I’m at sea level on the west coast of Florida. Thank you for the help!

I got a SuperE shorty. Runs great, but fuel leaks from overflow when bike sits. I have cleaned it 2x and still a trickle flow. I know its my float. How do I adjust float to stop overflow?
@SSCycleInc
@SSCycleInc 5 жыл бұрын
First - make sure that you are turning your fuel off at the petcock when you turn the bike off, and make sure that the petcock itself doesn't leak. If your float is set incorrectly, it could cause it to leak out the overflow. You would drain and remove the bowl, then while holding the edge of the float over the needle, push on the float gently to adjust it - make sure it is level with the ledge on the bowl. For detailed info, give our techs a call - 608-627-1958

@SSCycleInc

While both are great carburetors, they are not the same. The Super E is more intended for a stock, or mildly modified engine while the Super G is for bikes with larger cubes. In general many people consider 100" to be the hinge point, with the E being the go to for engines under 100" and the G the go to for over 100" engines.

This was a great video and all, but honestly it doesn't do much any help for most people trying to figure out what jet sizes they need and what not, if they don't have a dyno. :/

It'd be nice if they'd just make a seperate video for non-dyno owners. Gets a little confusing with this one.

Knew an old timer who had a method of jetting and tuning Super E and G carbs. It worked extremely well. Unfortunately he died about 10 years ago and I can't remember the exact steps and order he had me do. Should have wrote it down. Wasn't anything like this video, but it made the carb work perfectly.

when I'm cruising through town at 25-30 mph my bike idles rough.when im giving it a little more throttle than it can take at cruising speed it breaks up a tiny bit . could that be a lean condition?

If it's too lean, the engine will generally back fire or spit back through the carb, and it could be causing uneven firing at low speeds. You could try a larger intermediate jet, which is the jet controlling the mixture at that speed. However there are a lot of other things that can cause this type of problem. If the jet does not solve it, please call our tech dept at 608-627-1497. Those guys can give you the help you need in short order.

Is there a difference in how the carb is tuned if a large cam is installed? It's a 2001 super stock113 with a 520 lift. Also what's the difference between a "g" and a super "g" if any.
