Honestly in my opinion the best way to appreciate game is to play it in dialogs language that matches localisation. For examples Kingdome come in German with english subs and metro in russian with english subs. Maybe one day I will learn Russian but for now english subtitles are what I have (tho I am from Poland).

Can’t help but feel sorry for the soldiers. Duty, Freedom, Loners, Mercenaries, even the Ecologists and Monolith are there at their own free will. The Soldiers can’t argue against their superiors otherwise they’d be charged with insubordination, most of ‘em don’t even want to be in the zone.

it seems everyone else has no choice but to adapt to live and die in the zone, so they have a fatalistic embrace of their situation and can have some humor in it (like loners cracking jokes). the military is there on a mission, and probably not one of them want to be there at all, save Degtyarev. they don't want to be there, they don't care about artifacts or making a fortune or adventure, their casualty rate is 90%, being sent to the zone is hell on earth. so it makes sense that they're trying to stay mentally healthy and maintain hope, because if they can hold out for a bit, they might get to go home

No, they have a agreement with Duty which is formed from originally stranded Military that first attacked the center of the zone and got stranded/abandoned after the retreat. The Generals of both Duty and Military even meet at one point. Duty has identical structure and discipline as military except they wage war with the zone from within while military cordon it and keep it contained. That's why Duty is one of the two friendly factions to Military (other being ecologists). (Not counting modded or dynamic faction relationships but original lore-canon relationships)

Yeah, and that makes total sense. Stalkers are mostly outcasts who chose erradiated zone full of anomalies and mutants to the normal life in society. But for soldiers it's just worst period of their lives, and all they dream of is to go back to their families and friends and to live like they used to live before they got sent to the zone.

Anyone that spends most of their time near the rookie village would probably have seen that at least a couple of times, i cant imagine how horrible it would be see a friend get ripped apart by an anomaly and knowing you cant do anything to help. Just earlier i was wondering why all npcs seem so desensitized, and while i know it is due to how they were designed, i cant help but think that any amount of time in the zone would cause that.

Those who are Honest soldiers yes. But those who are corrupt and ask for rubles or something when you are just peacefully walking around or about to pass through an area? I'd shoot them in a 200m meter distance with my SVD, but those who are not- even if they are shooting at my position, i'll just try to escape them or sneak pass them in a different location.

Me too, man. I try to avoid military as good as possible, although my i'm a loner in full upgraded exoskeleton with gauss gun in my hand. Even i cancelled Barman's job to kill the deserted military guy. But if they attacking Rookie village or Agropom base for no reason (like usual), i give no mercy. Even if what i have is only sunrise suit and AKs. The only exception is CoP. You can't kill military guy if there's no one around, right? Especially you're the military guy yourself ._. When playing as military guy in CoC/Anomaly, i try to not shooting any Stalkers except for self defense. I kill bandits and Monolith only.

@@UsaKen_PMC Same here, but the list of my killing spree on the top's list is Mercs, higher than bandits and monolith even.... idc if they are cool or something... but one thing i hate about them is when they can just easily backstab you if someone hired them to manhunt you. That anxiety i have is why i keep being a loner and actively hunting mercs when i see their camps everywhere. Even nearby infested bloodsucker lair villages.

I'm guessing that they were ordered to shoot on sight, so I'm going to say that they're not that bad. They charge money, yes, but looking at the fact that they probably aren't getting that much money or supplies from the military, I'm fine with them.

@@thankusa9795 quick progression, player tanking many shots even with early game armor on the hardest difficulty, the existence of artifacts. Stalker is an easy game and you can conquer the economy, and by extension the good equipment, by mid game at worst. Add to that low enemy HP that could be killed in a couple of headshots and the combat is easy.

Canonically, the military forces in the Zone are widely implied to be undersupplied, undersupported, underpaid and demoralized, with assignments in the Zone often given out as punishments. This might not apply to the guys in the video, who are special forces sent on an important secret mission, but the random grunts guarding the perimeter in the Cordon and such definitely belong to this category, hence why they take bribes from stalkers, let traders like Sidorovich smuggle goods in and out for a cut of the profits, and even sell some of their surplus equipment after writing it off as lost or damaged. They probably shoot at stalkers mainly out of fear of the officers at their back and because they were told that stalkers are all dangerous criminals who want them dead just as badly.

Many of the "military" forces in the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games are internal troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, more like Policemen than soldiers, albeit fairly well-armed Policemen. The men wearing the Beril suits are proper regulars of the Ukrainian Ground Forces, though some of them (particularly those encountered late game) are Spetsnaz (special forces). The men in Call of Pripyat are most likely VDV paratroopers given their mission and the fact that all of them were air transported. However, regardless of their branch or how good at their jobs they are, none of them chose to be in the Zone. They might have volunteered for military service, but only the unluckiest end up in the Zone. They probably aren't selected for any particular reason, but the government will always prioritise its demands over their comfort. Those wearing the Bulat suits are a notable exception to these rules, however - they are Stalkers who have agreed to work for the government, and went to the Zone entirely out of their own free choice.

In the game, Many deserted because of the high death rate in there, the low pay, and to add that, most of the officials and officers are corrupt. This was pre-maidan, I'm not saying they were any less brave then but it is what it is, Ukraine although independent was pretty much subservient to Moscow, and the military was about as corrupt as anything that is subject to Moscow's rule can be. Even in 2013-14 Ukrainian soldiers sometimes had to buy their own gear because someone kept selling their stocks and pocketing the money. You look at the Ukrainian military in the past few years, and the situation is very different to what it was like back when these games were made.
