Another notewrothy vehicle in the irl Zone that sadly isn't shown in the games is the ISU-152 heavy assault gun. Several of them were deployed to the power plant in 1986, where they put their 152 mm howitzers, designed to crack bunkers, to work for demolition. When they were no longer needed, they were left behind, where they remain to this day. If you're familiar with the historian Mark Felton, he made a short video about them.

1:45 FUN FACT: For some strange reason, this vehicle model from Stalker appeared in The Last Stand campaign added to Left 4 Dead 2. I think what ended up happening is the model was most likely hidden in the game files ever since Cold Stream was added, which was another community created campaign. My theory is that the campaign used to use that model but it had to be removed when Valve officially added it, and it accidentally got left in the game files. Then whoever was working on the junkyard section of The Last Stand campaign must've mistaken it for a car model from Half-Life 2 because of it's Eastern European origin and similar model quality. The model has since been swapped out with a duplicate Half-Life 2 model with a unique texture... using the wrong vehicle however. There's already a ZAZ 968M in Half-Life 2. The replacement uses the Moskvitch instead.

The vehicles always look so ominous at night under the light of a stalker's headlamp. Especially when it's so specular in the rain. The X-Ray Engine makes them very eye-catching. Thank you for another great video!

If you look closely, all 3 locomotives ChME3, M62 and VL80 use the same VL80 texture, even bearing the same VL80-699 marking. From this what I managed to find out, the locomotive VL80-699 is still in use today in Ukraine. Also, according to IGCD the excavator from 12:25 is a 1974 MTP 71. Not sure about that one though...

Sometimes you spend so much time just skulking around the ruins of a past time, you forget to really look at that bus you are hiding in and wonder who was on it, what was it being used for exactly, where was it going. I did not think I would be so interested in the vehicles but I realize I am. lol Thank you for making this small part of the game that I have yet to see covered. There is also more than I realized just playing the game. Seeing them all layed out like this, it really helps give perspective in how many different vehicles are actually around the games. I guess I got used to just seeing old ravaged vehicles and dont often stop and inspect them closely and really think about it.

As it comes to vehicles, driving in early versions of Lost Alpha was a masterpiece

Fun fact: If you mount Counter-Strike: Source on Garry's Mod and look through the vehicle models, you will find the exact same model for ZAZ 968M used in STALKER with lower resolution textures.

Just a small heads up: when you talked about tractors and you mentioned small farmers, the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics used a planned economy - so no small/independent farmers existed, it was all state owned collective farms, I'm sure you already know that, but I felt the need to comment on it. Overall a great video as always, keep it up buddy and don't worry about the run time, short videos are always awesome as long as they are high quality!

Another interesting fact to notice is that the Mi-2 is somehow just as, if not stronger than the Mi-24 in-game, which is very weird, considering that the 24s are still beasts even in today's standards, but Mi-2s can barely carry armor and weaponry. I'd like to see the mi-24s swapped with their smaller compagnions, so it would make sense from a logical standpoint (the boss being the mi-24 and the random heli patrols being mi-2).

Love the detail in the btr design, If its abandoned in the zone for example at the vehical graveyard the gun is missing (got removed before dumping it). The btrs which got destroyed on the other hand for example in the assault on the power plant have there guns still!

If I remember correctly In clear sky, if you manage to enter freedom base before talking to lingov(?) BTR in the hangar will shoot at the player

Back to the roots indeed. I kinda want to see every weapon in the games compared against enemies and mutants (if guns in some games are better or worse) not sure if that's the type of video you would want to make however.

I believe the Mi-6 is never seen operational in the game because it's service was retired in 2002 after a fatal crash, and the fact that it is an old piece of junk as of now. The Helicopter was probably used in a cleanup operation before 2002, probably in 1982 when the main accident happened. I don't know for sure if the Military still uses it during 2006, but it's possible in some way that they still could.

It's amazing to me how such little things like cars and utility vehicles which basically have no impact on the game have been carefully researched and modeled. Thank you for satiating my childhood urges to learn more about the stalker world and it's production

You forgot to mention that the ZiL 130 has 2 versions,the early model,with a grile that has a different grille from the one in the game,while the ones in the game are the second,later model with that grile. The ZiL 130's models are INSANELY easy to recognize,because the grile,JUST the grile tells you. I don't know if the early models have anything else

Vehicle use in STALKER 2 is likely going to be how to fast travel. The map is so massive, it would actually be a really bad experience to not have fast travel. I know some people get testy about how it's more I M M E R S I V E to not use fast travel, but like it would objectively be not good to travel a 64 square km landscape on foot at all times.

I also remember being able to destroy it with 40-mils. You could also use rockets, but I didn't bring an RPG-7. Did have a Groza, though. 7:42 That explains it. I forgot they move around.

Hi, in Stalkersoup standalone mod several cars, an APC, and even a light tank are driveable, and the tank can be fired. Quite a few of the vehicles can be bought from traders, others need keys, some can just be taken. I understand some other standalones have drivable vehicles. Regards JB

i will now say, in the stalker mods call of chernobyl and anomaly, you can summon vehicles with debug commands and they work (barely) im a bit stupid but im assuming it just uses the old versions of how the vehicles couldve driven

Well, the photo you've shown with the white ZAZ 968 was a photo of a ZAZ 968A (kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qaignZqGp6-pl6s.html), in game are only the ZAZ 968M models, which came later, which you can easily distinguish by the air opening in the rear. the 968A had the bulky ones, the 968M the flat ones. Back in the 80s we had a ZAZ 968A, in red ... I still love to think back and remember the times when we were going somewhere. It basically was like an old Porsche: rear drive, engine in the rear, air cooled ... =)

While I can understand many of vehicles being abandoned, so many just seem weirdly out of place to just be left on side of road, or some at CNPP that worked when they come, why just leave them there and not take them back when they are done

The drone might have been sent by the Americans to see what happened at the CNPP, and it must have been shot down by the soviet military, much like it happened at the Chelyabinsk nuclear disaster in 1957, but that is just a theory of mine

I never before had noticed that the helicopter boss in clear sky was a mil mi 2, i always thought it was a mil mi 24. You did a very good job on this video. Also in mil mi 2 i noticed a small mistake, it's armed not armored.

I'd love to ride a bike and escape pseudo dogs and dodge lurkers on it. The open forested areas are quite smooth for driving vehicles. But I killed Nitro in Anomaly. He hated my ass.
