One thing that always ticks me off about Stalker firearms are that they are mirrored.

Originally, the Viper 5 in early builds of shadow of chernobyl was supposed to use 5.56 instead of 9x19, making it a HK53 instead of a MP5 for its real life counterpart, the 9x18 Viper 5 icon is a remnant of this.

Great summary. It's a pity that Viper is the only SMG in the games. The cut Mac-10 and P90 would be a neat addition to the arsenal. By the way, I think that AC-96 is also used by some Mercs in CoP.

What's funny with the Viper5 9x18 is that he preview image is actually a HK G53. You can tell by the larger curved magazine which is made to hold 5.56x45

An interesting note is that the G36 aka GP 37 in the first three games is actually a modified SL8 because the length between its grip and stock is longer than that of the G36

Liked the AN-94 - that 2 shot repeating mode and the way it works with a piece of string inside it is super quirky. But the SA80 is daft fun. Mikhail Kalashnikov visited Britain. He was taken to the Royal Ordnance factory in Nottingham, and shown the SA80. He looked at it for a while, and finally said: "You must have some very clever soldiers."

My favorite 2 assault rifles: The SG550 witch could be aquired relatively early in the game, was reliable and accurate enough, with sufficiently high enough damage to carry me through the rest of the game. The grenade launcher was a nice bonus. AK-74(M), witch was a good jack of all trades, that could be fitted with a scope and a GP-25. Loved it very much. Reliable and accurate up to mid range, easy to obtain, can carry you through the entire game. I allways opted to have both a 5.45 and a 5.56 rifle, because when i used one of them, i could accumulate a lot of ammo for the other, then switch and repeat. So these 2 were my main. I like the AK variants a bit more. Because IRL stuff... Good memories on the range.

SA Avanlanche is usually my favorite weapon from here due to its effectiveness but when I'm in the mood of demolishing things left and right then it's time to equip the FT2000 or the Tunder Groza. Those guns are powerhouses on their own.

I guess that Throphy AKM was supposed to be a folding stock 7.62x39 AKMS, but since there was no 7.62x39mm rounds in neither of STALKER games, they had to make do with sniper ammo. Honestly, I think that 7.62x39mm would be a better alternative for 9x39mm as a late game rifle ammo, since it's way more popular than the latter, which is used exclusively by Russian Special Forces. It would basically make more sense.

My absolute favorite is the SG550, such a smooth shooter. It's like an AK and a M4 had a baby. Best of both worlds!

2:31 There was going to be an HK53 (compact 5.56) in an older build, but it got cut. They kept the icon. Would have been awesome to have an HK53 in the Zone. Imagine if it was spliced together with the GP-95 (a compact grenade launcher made for the 9A-91) with its mount modified to be more universal for the sake of use in the Zone. 3:17 The mag makes it look like an AKMSU in 7.62x39 but with a side-folding skeleton stock instead of a trashy under-folder. There's at least one mod that turns it into an AKMSU, adds 7.62x39 ammo, and even has a special version (found in Strelok's hideout) that fits in your pistol slot. 10:08 Too bad they screwed up the sights. That issue was fixed in most mods, including but not limited to various versions of Oblivion Lost, by revamping the in-view model so the sights lined up right. 11:03 / 12:17 Ackchyually, that's a GL5040. Military designation "Gewehraufsatz 97" (abbreviated "GwA.97"). It's made by SIG. Same concept as an M-203, but it has a different mounting system, plus it opens up using a different type of lever. IRL, it was made specifically for the SG550, but for Zone use, it makes sense that its mount might have been modified to allow it to be more universal. 12:07 It was also Strelok's signature rifle at the end of Clear Sky (which might explain it showing up as a Legendary weapon in CoP). 12:24 The reason the standard model doesn't accept a SUSAT scope is because it lacks a rail or other mounting system compatible with that type of scope. IRL, it accepts its own optic, but it makes sense that it wouldn't have found its way into the Zone. So savvy zonesmiths would have to figure out a way to "kludge" (to borrow a term from Ian McCollum) whatever scope they have available onto it. 13:34 It also has an awful dot sight on top of the scope for backup which you can't use in any of the core games. Various mods allow use of the combination sights, some going so far as to have different G36 variants with different sights. IMO, the best is the G36E from Oblivion Lost 2010 that has a scope with iron sights on top. The worst is the one from Anomaly that forces you to use the worthless dot sight for no reason. 15:27 Pointlessly limited range on the 40-mils, thereby rendering the sights useless (contrast with ShoC). A 40-mil wouldn't even arm at that distance! Btw, the factory name for that FN launcher is "EGLM," but it has other names too. Not sure what its military designation is. 16:41 Perhaps its biggest problem, specific to its grenade launcher configuration (OTs-14-4A-04), is that the rifle and launcher share the same trigger group, meaning that they have to be switched back and forth using a selector switch. Not a big deal in a video game, but a huge deal IRL, as pointed out by Max Popenker on an episode of Forgotten Weapons. 17:34 Based on the Groza-2 (which never materialized in our timeline). The Groza was planned to be made in four calibers: Groza-1 in 7.62x39 (which shows up in Anomaly), Groza-2 in 5.45 (which shows up in the core games), Groza-3 in 5.56, and Groza-4 in 9x39. Grenade launcher configuration for any of these ends with the number "04." The launcher is based on the GP-30, a successor of the GP-25 that never fully replaced the GP-25. 19:57 Depends on which game and/or mod. One thing's for sure. Another great video! Hard to pick a favorite, there are so many good choices! Anything with a scope is usually what I use. But the Thunder has a special place in my heart. The integrated granade launcher is a very attractive and useful feature! And the stopping power of 9x39 can't be argued with. I wish SoC had included weapon repairs. The game has so many cool, useful, and unique rifles. But they mostly were aquired from killing other Stalkers and thus were never found in acceptable condition! Basically I never got to use any of thr varients because of that

I always enjoyed the AS VAL the most in any of the games for its high damage and ability to go full auto when needed

Strelok's SIG or a scoped AS VAL, I'd still have a hard time choosing... love most of these rifles, they're the real classics of the zone

I absolutely love the G36. It has great handling, reliability, and looks so damn good! Between that, the MP5, and the USP, H&K does real good work.

2:35 It could be that this was originally a new gun, but to simplify the game or get rid of a gun that was basically identical or some other reason I can't think of, they scrapped the idea and merged the new SMG with the Viper 5, but devs forgot to change image.

An unfortunate thing I spotted during this video is that even tho the textures are improved the reload animations actually get downgraded between shadow of chernobyl and clear sky/call of prypiat. Despite of the lower texture, the reloading of each gun in shadow of chernobyl has its uniqueness while in the other games they seem wooden and almost the same and in some instances the bolt/charging parts are barely moved or not at all.

I remember finding by accident (from the YT main page, blessed by the algorithm that gave something good for once) videoguide that tells you how to get unique Groza 5,45 in ShoC since Sid sells it before we get the flash drive from the Nimble. Didn't undestood a word, but that didn't stop me from trying.

Minor correction on the FT-200M, the version of the F-2000 with the prototype fire control system was featured in the earliest builds of Shadow of Chernobyl, it can be identified by the "plate" sitting on top of the optic. The ones available in the release versions of the games possess the production model with a simple 1.6x telescopic sight, with the plastic around it being nothing but an empty shell.

My main is, as always, Vintar BC. Perfect for a midnight snack hunter. 🤣 My 2nd "DMR" choices is Obokan/AN for damage (2 bullets/hit) or IL (as long as in semi auto). In one of my CoP replay, somehow i didn't realized that i almost finished the story with a fully upgraded IL i looted from a dead stalker from early game. 🤣

G36 is my favourite assault rifle both in the zone and the real world.Can't wait to use it in STALKER 2. As for SMGs my favourite gun the PP19 bizon was never in the main games but in some mods.I hope it will also be included in S2.

Some people might criticize him referring to the suppressor as a "muffler", but both suppressors and vehicle mufflers were based on the same original design by Maxim, and in some countries vehicle mufflers are called silencers. Also, the de facto usage of "suppressor" by gun nerds is just a shibboleth. In the US at least, firearm suppressors are legally considers "silencers"

Groza is definitely my most favorite gun.

I like AKm-74/2 for it rate of fire and AC-96/2 for it accuracy. I use all 5.56x45 because of it's damage and accuracy, but I use TRs 301 and GP37 a lot. Sadly that I don't use 9x39, maybe the ammo is expensive and rare. For sniper I prefer SVD and SVU or Gauss rifle.

There is also a unique Thunder S14 in call of pripyat. The Storm, which can be ordered from Nimble.

I have seen the FT 200 M in the hands of Elite Loners in call of pripyat but i have only seen it once after beating the game

Like the version of the Dead City controlled by the Master from OGSE/OGSR or Jekans story from Goldpshere. I think if you do this you will have even more content to talk about, not to mention it would be a nice advertisment for the mods themselves.

I love the shortened ak and storm rifles. Funnily one is the cheapest the other is the most expensive guns in the zona, never was a big fan of nato rifles, expect maybe gp37 due to the enotional connections to this gun i have- you have to beat the loners as a bandit to get it, after that you can kick even dutyshmucks back to agroprom very easily

ZM weapons LR-300 is pretty rare, it was never produced in any significant numbers. Para Ord bought the rights and called it the Para TTR for awhile but I don’t think Para is in business anymore. It’s a very rare rifle. Kinda neat design too with the telescoping gas tube. A shame it didn’t really take off.

G36(that freedom one in SoC) is best in SoC for me Viper 5 is super op at start in clear sky but later u use akm 72/2 with modifiers(my opinion) And pls can u help me If u are already loner and badints are allways your enemys can u still use flash drives? 3:22 although the in-game magazine looks like it’s fitted for 7.62x39 bullets, it is actually a Romanian 5.45x39 magazine that exists in real life 6:58 there’s a Loner NPC in SoC that wield the Obokan, his name is Sparrow, Barkeep has a mission for us to kill him 10:28 from what I know, the LR-300 in real life is a relatively popular civilian weapon in the US an it’s also used in various Private Military Companies(most notably: Blackwater) 4:41 first of all I don’t want to mention politics in here but I just want to say that from what I know, before the Ukrainian Army modernise itself in 2014, the AKS-74 was more popular than the AK-74 among the ranks, that’s why the AK-74 with a fixed stock isn’t in the game
