"Since everyone around here thinks I'm a queer anyway."
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
S-Town is a new podcast from Serial and This American Life, hosted by Brian Reed, about a man named John who despises his
Alabama town and decides to do something about it. He asks Brian to investigate the son of a wealthy family who's allegedly
been bragging that he got away with murder. But when someone else ends up dead, the search for the truth leads to a nasty feud,
a hunt for hidden treasure, and an unearthing of the mysteries of one man's life.

OMG I would love to listen to Olin reading a book to me while I go to sleep. Lol his diction is so beautiful. Like warm caramel. I am so happy John had a friend in Olin. I also feel deep gratitude to Olin for being a friend to a man I never knew but have grown to care for. Poor John. My sincere condolences to Olin. 🙏

It's not odd to see a movie you like 50+ times. I watch some of my favorite movies over and over and over again. Plus, Brokeback Mountain is a masterpiece. As a straight woman, but a romantic and a movie buff, this movie is beautiful, tragic raw and heartbreaking. I absolutely love it and can see how it would resonate with a gay man, specifically, with John B.

Julez Valles as a straight man I object to your feeling the need to disclose tour sexuality to make your point.

A grown man pounding the ground in a rage because his friend doesn’t dig Brokeback Mountain as much as he does is such a gay thing to do 🤣

I’m sorry, but it’s really funny that they almost had a falling out over a movie.

It is a bit funny when you say it, it being over a movie. But I feel like to John it was the message of the movie that was so dear to him and he felt like it would've hit Olin just as hard in the same place. It's common, in the gay community to be or feel rejected in many senses, whether intentionally or not so when you find something, that you feel encompasses a somewhat understanding of yourself it means 10x as much. I think John was blindsided in Olin not appreciating the meaning.

I think I'm in a good enough head space to know when and where to talk shit about my own shit town, and I have gotten involved in the city's politics and done the best I could, but I will say: the reason I don't leave is because the reason this town's turned to shit is because all the other people with the means to make change have already left. I don't want to be part of that same process. I suspect it was the same for John, even though he couldn't articulate it.

Yeah and the "we're just testing something" ad is inexcusably loud, jarring, and can cause flashbacks or anxiety.

Straight woman here. Broke Back Mtn: The romance stirred interesting conflicting emotions. Mostly it was a sad story. Love is love in my view. John B never really found it. That is the true heart wrenching story. Find love people. It feels incredible.
