"You're beginning to figure it out now, aren't you?"
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
S-Town is a new podcast from Serial and This American Life, hosted by Brian Reed, about a man named John who despises his
Alabama town and decides to do something about it. He asks Brian to investigate the son of a wealthy family who's allegedly
been bragging that he got away with murder. But when someone else ends up dead, the search for the truth leads to a nasty feud,
a hunt for hidden treasure, and an unearthing of the mysteries of one man's life.

First I thought im gonna catch the murderer, then I ran after John's gold and when I found John, I forgot about everything else and found tears in my eyes and smile on my lips. But a deep pain in my heart which is gonna linger for a while or its going to be there forever... What a genius he was...

Im surprised at the negative comments. This is easily one of my favourite podcasts ever. As someone who also doesn’t really venture from the town I was born, it was eye-opening to hear about a life so different from the one I have here. I feel like I know a bit more about the world.

So what do us 80 million listeners do now? Do we do shrug and do nothing which we know so irrated John B. We dont petition the county to save his maze as his rememberance? We dont make moves into an outside investigation into the whereabouts of John B's gold which according to Fayes own words points towards her,the Mayor and the attending police knowing. If anyone knows of anything being done in John B's memory please let me know. I want not to do nothing.

I hope no one out there got any "ideas" about John's suicide. If you are depressed remember that someone cares about you and get help. But do not take cyanide. It is not like the movies where they just fall over dead. Cyanide, or prussic acid, causes an absolutely agonizing convulsing death.

@@Thelikebutton123 Do you have the qualifications to make that (massively overused) diagnosis, which seems to contradict the view of ppl who actually knew him? I'm tired of the Internet branding anyone who is outspoken, different, etc. in a way they dislike as a "narcissist". Which like other mental conditions, would be (a) something the person didn't choose; (b) an intangible set of behaviour characteristics interpreted by psychiatrists, so I frankly would not see the problem with exploring that type of person in a sympathetic way. However, while John had his faults, he doesn't fit NPD - more along the lines of high functioning autism combined with mercury poisoning, growing up outcast, and honestly a high level of intelligence to where he couldn't just ignore the maelstrom of social, political, and environmental decay around us, etc. I thought his professor's commenting on how he would do things to attract ridicule to himself in order to account for why it was happening was tragically relatable, and it doesn't fit NPD.

What a great story. It is a shame that even in his wisdom and brilliance of mind John could not see the proof for the existence of God through nature all around him. Even he spoke in his manuscript about the beauty, complexity and wonder of nature. And yet he was still an atheist. Sad. Romans 1:20 20 For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities-his eternal power and divine nature-have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse. I also find it a shame that John was taken in by the false data that has been presented for proof of climate change. In the last few years, several well respected scientists, whose guilt overtook them, have come forward admitting that they were instructed to skew the data so as to convince the public that climate change is real and we should all live in fear. We are much easier to control when we are in fear. The skewed data makes it much easier to change rules and laws that in the end will only benefit those in power. It’s a shame John never got to learn the truth about this false narrative. It’s a shame he never found a real love that he could share his life with. Tyler said John got really drunk the night he died. Alcohol is a depressant. And when you’re already extremely depressed, already living with suicidal thoughts, well, you get it. I just hate that he didn’t at least get his affairs in order first. I will remember this story for years to come. So glad my friend convinced me to have a listen. Well done!

i heard a wise man say about someone: "he doesn't know how the world works". not cynically, but with understanding. John, in a way, didn't know how the world worked. Part of that understanding is knowing the almost schizoid nature of life: the light/dark, the holy/evil, the fullness/emptiness. They're both there in color and vibrancy.

@@RabbitsHole it's a fair point, but remember this isn't a written story, this isn't made to have a point of no return or a resolution to a conflict. It's just a story about this guy. The reporter met him once before he committed suicide. It just delves into who he were and why he did what he did and perhaps we can all learn just a little from his story. The ending isn't spectacular, neither will the end of most of the people who heard it be. The gold will never be found, if it wasn't already spent. The maze have already fallen into disrepair and will never be renovated. But maybe this podcast can inspire us to take a little risk, change what we find unjust and realise our ideas. Use every little moment whilst we can.

The thing is, Brian probably knows a lot more than he says, but he literally can't tell anyone. Even if Tyler were to find the money that John wanted him to have, he wouldn't be able to just keep it. It'd be taken from him and he'd probably go to prison. So whatever else Tyler found, he may or may not have told Brian, but Brian isn't going to say anything. Which sucks cause all of us know that Jon wanted Tyler to have everything left over, but there's nothing he ir we can do about it

Yes...more cat videos and pimple popping! More dim, vacuous-eyed influencers and fart compilations! America cannot collapse quickly enough. I AM an American and even I will admit the world is correct about a vast majority of our citizens - they are self-absorbed, ignorant, hateful, fat, anti-intellicituals who take great pride in voicing to all who will listen how proud they are of how far they can insert their heads up their asses. Congratulations, Wristwanker! You exemplify everything this country does poorly. Each breath you take, each meal you eat, and each resource you deplete deprives a person worthy or being called a "human being" a life free of the constant reminder you provide of why most people should not have children (remember, self-abortion is still legal and an option you should seriously consider. I am certain many around you would enjoy assisting your hand and doubt even your mother would attempt to persuade you otherwise). One could say that coming into contact with you, even at this removed a distance, is no better than casting eyes on an aborted fetus. But honestly, the abortion has more sense and a larger vocabulary than you. All I can say is you are lucky I am in a good mood, Brainfroze. That was about as even-tempered as I can be with utter disappointments such as yourself. You are an embarrassment to everyone...even people who have no idea who you are. You are so stunted, Limpwrist, that you dont even know to feel ashamed for appearing in public without your full body covered. And even then...
