Special forces and special operations forces (SOF) are military units trained to conduct special operations. NATO has defined special operations as "military activities conducted by specially designated, organized, trained, and equipped forces, manned with selected personnel, using unconventional tactics, techniques, and modes of employment".
Special forces may perform functions including airborne operations, counter-terrorism, foreign internal defense, covert ops, direct action, hostage rescue, high-value targets/manhunt, intelligence operations, mobility operations, and unconventional warfare.

So every developed country in the western world? As the crime rate rises and better weapons get in the hands of criminals and terrorists, upscale law enforcement teams are needed to combat any threats that may come to the public from this. SWAT teams in nearly every western country are trained and equipped pretty much to military standards. People just like to shit talk US SWAT teams because they wear camo instead of ranger green or grey uniforms, as if it changes anything.

@@monkeymoment6478 Wrong, look at Europe, compare our SWAT units to our special forces? Major difference. Whilst in the USA there is basically no difference except in the fact that SWAT are less trained.

@@sneakytaze5336 And this is a bad thing why? SOF units aren’t super soldier death squads built to take on entire armies, they are highly specialized light infantry. The mission set and danger level of SOF units and mainly State Police, Metro, and Federal SWAT teams often overlaps, one just does it overseas and the other does it stateside. Saying Europe is any different is just not true, I’d say their tactical teams are on average better than ours are, and get better funding than a lot of their own nations’ SOF guys.

@@sneakytaze5336 GIGN France, GSG-9 Germany, RCMP Canada, SCO19 UK, BSB Netherlands and CSF Egypt just to name a few off the top of my head. All are militarized swat teams all around the world. All civilized countries (1st world), have militarized swat teams. You're statement is false either because you're ignorant to looking up information or because you want to ignore the truth to act like your country is better off. We do have more swat teams yes, but that's due to the break up of our government from county, state and federal. We also tend to have more firearms training and firearm protection (bullet proof vehicles etc.) at the local level because we simply have more firearms in our country.
