Hello my friends. Here is show you how to convert a 10 round S&W M&P 22 caliber magazine into a 12 round capacity magazine. If you have a 10 round mag for this M&P22 and it is easy to take the mag butt plate off, then this will be even easier.
If not then your 10 round magazine has a limiter and glued with epoxy to the butt plate. I am not 100% sure but I found in my research that sometime in 2014 S&W began to glue the butt plates to the 10 round magazine, once they found out the magazine could be converted into a 12 round and I am sure following my states laws with their 10 round magazine capacity.
Well anyways, make sure you know your laws in your state you live in. This is educational for your entertainment.
If your mag is difficult to remove the butt plate, then it is glued, so start these simple steps.
1. Get a glass and fill it with really hot water and place your 10 round mag in it as I demonstrate. Leave it in there for 15 min. If you can't get the butt plate off still, then put new hot water in the glass and leave the mag sitting butt plate first for another 15 minutes. This helps the epoxy glue to start to melt and break down.
2. Remove your magazine from the glass and dry it. Don't worry it will not rust or ruin it. Now try to take your mag butt plate off by tapping it with a small hammer, light to medium taps. Be patient. This will help to loosen up that glue and you can add some material over the back of the butt plate so you will not scratch or dent your polymer butt plate.
You should feel and see the butt plate now moving forward so you can remove it. Keep your thumb over it so the spring will not fly out. Wear safety glasses.
3. Once you remove the mag plate, remove the spring, etc and you will see the limiter as I have shown.
4. Now use a small exacto or similar knife to remove any of the epoxy glue left on the mag and mag plate, just scrape it off.
5. Remove the limiter from magazine floor plate retainer. You will see it is glued to the limiter. You can also dip this retainer and limiter into a glass of very hot water for another 10 to 15 minutes. This will help so you can remove the limiter from the mag retainer.
6. Use two pliers or similar and began to twist off the limiter from the mag retainer twisting side to side. You can also hold it the limiter in a vice and use your plier to help remove it.
7. Once you remove the limiter from the mag retainer, then keep the limiter if you wish for use in any 10 round states. Clean up the magazine retainer from any glue and add it back to the spring without the limiter and put the magazine back together and then add your 12 rounds.
Now everything should be well now.
If you place the magazine in the M&P22 into the magwell and it does not seem to fit flush, then follow these instructions. A friend had this problem and we fixed it, not everyone experiences this.
Disassemble your magazine and take the magazine retainer and cutt off 3mm from the tube like that inserts into the magazine, you are just shortening it. I did it with my dremel for my friend but you can use other methods. You will not ruin it. Once you do this clean up the retainer and replace it into the spring and put your mag together. It will work perfectly.
