S1 - Ep 119-Exploring the Moravian Mission Station in Genadendal!

After leaving Greyton we took the 5km road to Genadendal to do some exploring of the Moravian Mission Station. This was the first mission station in South Africa and was started by George Schmidt in 1738. It's very interesting to note that the first Teachers Training College in South Africa opened its doors in Genadendal on 12 September 1838. Over a period of 90 years, a total of 236 men and women have qualified here as teachers. Another beautiful little town with the original building and the houses are sweet. Another town that gives you the olden days vibe. Seeing how well kept the buildings and gardens shows how pride they are of the history. Loved the walkway to the beautiful tree

Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed this episode. The archway of trees leading to the old pear tree was amazing! I could just see the children sitting under the old tree while they were being taught. 🌳

Lots of history of South Africa hidden in these small places. Very interesting to know these things. Quite awesome to learn all about these old happenings.

Genadendal has such a rich history and I just hope they can somehow attract more visitors to ensure this compound remains preserved for future generations to explore and enjoy. ⛪
