As we drove into the town of Reitz, we were immediately struck by the expansive site of the Agricultural Show Grounds, home to the renowned Bieliemielie Festival. Luck was on our side as we found an open gate and decided to take a spontaneous drive through the grounds and wishes the Festival were ongoing at the time of our visit. Much to our surprise, the town itself was larger than expected, yet utterly captivating. Amidst the urban landscape, we spotted springbok and other antelope grazing on a sizable plot of land, adding to the town's charm. The sight of the picturesque Town Hall further heightened our experience, and navigating the streets of this Free State town filled us with a sense of awe. The vibrant atmosphere and warm hospitality of the locals made our visit truly memorable. #DustBugs #dustbugstravel #southafrica #southafricavlog #travelongravel #reitz #freestate

Thanks for Reitz, down memory lane, came for holidays as a child to friends on a farm, was last here 44yrs ago !!! When we stayed during school term, remember Transvaal holidays were different from Free State, so we would stay in Town and go to farm over the weekends. The farmer drove back to the farm each day to work!!

Impressive large town with lovely trees that somehow appeared to shimmer in the sunlight, producing a soft green hue in the streets. For some reason, the town reminds me of Welkom (without the mine headgear and mine dumps) where I spent two years of my life way back in 1979/80. What an absolute gem Hoog in die Takke is - truly a unique spot! Thanks for the visit.

I live in Reitz. I am sorry that you did not get to see the inside of the DR Church. It has lovely light woodwork (opposed to most churches having dark wood) and original seating calacity was 1200 so its big, spacious and a lot of light enters the building. The organ of said church is also worth mentioning. It is 110 years old this year and still in original condition. Will send photos to your email. Thanks for this channel. It is a lovely way to travel virtually and even learn something new about the towns you live in or oass through

My favourite time. Driving around with you. Did not expect to see these animals living blissfully in the middle of the town. Never realised there was such a large Agricultural School. Your accomadation was absolutely lovely . What a lovely way to wake up with sun coming up and all the lovely noises. Thank you. Enjoyed the trip.

I'd say a bandstand is a very good guess, especially thinking what grand occasions the Mayor must have hosted in that beautiful Town Hall way back when. 🏛️👌🏻 I agree with you, Reitz had a good vibe and it was a joy to visit from beginning to end. 🚙😁

Do i remember ever seeing a township during your tours? Townships are part of any given town. Maybe it can be shown in passing by; just my thoughts! I have traveled with you everywhere you toured and enjoyed and cherished every moment. Thank you.

We fully realise and acknowledge that townships form part of every town we visit and we often drive through them on our travels. Both of us have worked deep inside townships in the past too. I film out of the window of our vehicle though and there have been a few incidents in townships where my camera was almost grabbed out of my hand. I will therefore not film in or around townships again. It's really as simple as that. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Thank you for travelling with us.

Hoog in die takke can also mean drunk😂😂 love the wild life, could that one antelope be an impala? Town hall is such a beautiful building. I think that building in the park is a rotunda. Often used as a bandstand. The tree house looks divine. Maar al die trappe....ai! Sonja!! Hope you managed okay

Sonia doesn't like to go into too much detail, but she has had three failed surgeries and has serious issues with stairs / steps, uneven surfaces and longer distances. She's a brave girl though, so she makes the most of a bad situation. 🥰

Hmm ... All those black Springbok and white ones make me suspect that what you're seeing is them either being kept as a semi-domesticated pet by someone, or being bred for "variety", to give hunters "new" trophy options to buy. I used to be in contact with conservation insiders a lot of the time, so I know there's a lot of selective breeding going on for a certain segment of the hunting market, but that green field looks like it might just be someone's menagerie. There's some concern with messing up natural bloodlines (something that has survival implications, so it's not just "cosmetics"), but I suppose that if they were exposed to predation, the predators would sort out which ones survived and which didn't, and you might find the "fancy breeds" didn't last long. And if not, well evolution has spoken, hey? It's probably not something to get all concerned about. Lion cub petting facilities are another matter, though. From what I've heard, there's quite a lot of "canned lion hunting" in the Free State. I think I'll just leave this as a kind of dishonourable mention, with a warning that if you look it up you might find what you learn upsetting. And I'll just tell myself the bokkies are in a menagerie. And maybe even when their human comes to visit they run up to say Hi. Yes, that's what I'll think. It's possible, and a rather pleasant thought. Best ones to keep in mind.
@DustBugsTravel
@DustBugsTravel Ай бұрын
We're completely aware why we see all the differently-coloured antelope wherever we travel, but we were certainly not going to spoil our enjoyment of the antelope in town by thoughts of hunting. Not our vibe in the slightest, so we prefer to not even think about it. 🤷🏻‍♂️🦌
@sicko_the_ew
@sicko_the_ew Ай бұрын
@@DustBugsTravel And it really might just be someone's menagerie. They look very relaxed. I think I'll go for thinking they're all the pets of someone who collects bokkies. Maybe didn't want the white one to be used in a canned hunt and bought it. And now where to keep it? It's not impossible.
