Facilitating what is in effect a wager between players on a game of skill, and taking a commission for that...... sounds exactly what casinos do for poker. Ergo... if poker in a casino is regulated gambling then fantasy sport is also. The other reason it needs to be regulated as a gambling is it imposes strict regulations on the entity to prevent fraud and manipulation. e.g How do you know these organizations aren't syphoning off some winnings by using things like ghost players.

The irony of course is that the sites were banned...and then sports gambling was made legal! ...so...victory for what John said? He said they ARE gambling, which they were, and that they needed to be intentionally approved so they can be regulated...which I guess they are!

What he said about the British Museum applies to any number of national museums globally (I'm not saying the BM is innocent, just flagging up other info). The BM gets the worst of it because of the size of the empire, but remember what the Spanish took from S America (and elsewhere; they still have some enclaves in N Africa, remnants of larger possessions). The French, Germans, Italians plus multiple other countries had their own empires. I'm not sure if Belgium was officially an empire but it ruled African countries... And that's only the European ones. The USA, China, India and _many_ other countries invaded others, "liberating" objects. I just think it's a bit rich to pick on the one museum when there are hundreds, perhaps thousands, globally which contain items whose provenance is... dodgy!

"freely given" is how the british describe how they acquired the Kohinoor diamond, that doesn't mean it's true. They also describe many things they took from their colonies - including land and the lives of the natives - as "freely given" as well. You have to hand it to british propagandists - their version of "the truth" has stood the test of time in a lot of scenarios. Hell, I learned British propaganda about the Irish famine as fact in school **in ireland** . Nothing in history is "simple", there's your mistake

You clearly don't understand how generational wealth (or lack thereof) works, or how colonialism impacts countries for decades after the fact. India only got independence in the 1940s, so there are definitely people still alive today who experienced living under a colony.

I don't understand why it's a big deal whether or not daily fantasy apps are considered gambling or not when gambling is legal in most states anyway, so even if it's considered gambling, it wouldn't be considered illegal. Most states that i know of have a state lottery, which is definitely gambling. There's no difference. I don't participate in any of it, so I don't really care one way or the other. I just think it's silly to quibble over the classification of something that doesn't matter. This episode doesn't even discuss whether it's legal or not, just whether it should be considered gambling or not. My personal stance is like one guy said, if you have to pay to play and you have a chance to win money, it is indeed gambling.

Did you watch the episode? He explicitly states why it's important: gambling is illegal in some states and in others at least regulated differently to games of skill. And the companies are using their status as "not gambling" to argue why they should be legal in states where gambling is illegal Whether or not states that disallow gambling should have lotteries is a different question - it's similar but a different conversation (I do agree that lotteries are gambling but that's not what is up for discussion rn)
