We have been building out our Toyota 4Runner for many years now. While spending an adventurous overlanding day in Anza Borrego Desert State Park we thought it would be a great time to make this rig walk around video to answer some of your questions about our 4Runner buildout.

Oh that's probably at least a 30 min video. Not sure who's interested in seeing all the video production equipment we have either. But maybe I'll get around to that one of these days.

Great detailed walk around. Have you considered a Derale Transmission cooler kit or something else because of the additional weight to the 4runner and towing a trailer in the future? Do you monitor the engine and transmission temperature when climbing mountain trails and on pavement?

Yep we do monitor the engine and transmission temps and so far we haven't had any issues. We will keep an eye on the temps when we hook up the trailer.

What size rim would you go with if you got 35's

First if all, I made a mistake in the video. Im running 18” rims not 17. However the 18’s have worked well. I think the decision will be based more on the type/brand of tire you want to run. Sometimes the tire you really want only comes in limited rim sizes. For overlanding you’re fine on 16, 17, and 18” for 35” tires. The smaller the rim the more sidewall which increases the risk of sidewall tear. Also note that even though a tire is marked to be a certain diameter they can vary depending on the manufacturer and/or model.
