WOW, Winter Dispersed Camping with my Jeep Rubicon in Allegheny National Forest in Pennsylvania using my Gazelle tent!! What an epic time I had for my first out-of-state overlanding adventure. I headed to Allegheny National Forest in Pennsylvania in my Jeep Rubicon Hard Rock and did some winter dispersed camping along the Clarion River. The next day I packed up and found some remote trails and really enjoyed the scenery and experience. It was worth the 5 hour trip from central Ohio. I used my Gazelle T4 Overlander Tent. I used my Gaia GPS app to find my way and will show you some of the routes I took. Please join me on this adventure and thanks for watching! God Bless!

Just found this channel. Wasn't expecting the scripture reading at the 20 minute mark and was pleasantly surprised. Subscribed and liked specifically because of that alone. We just got a used 08 jkur and installed new springs, shocks, and tires. We are contemplating a trip to Penn this July for the mother earth news fair. Great camping video as well!

Looks like you stayed at Robin Island above Belltown when you camped. I’ve camped there many times myself. If you came from Ohio you sure took the scenic route to get there. I’m sure you went through Tionesta. Is that other town Ridgway? Then you went down through Hallton? It looks like it. Maybe you went that way intentionally. I don’t know. That one place you filmed after you left looks vaguely familiar. Like above Marienville somewhere. Oh, and if that is indeed Robin Island, there is a spring tucked back in the woods about 50 yards straight back from your tent site. No need to sleep with your water and risk a leak in your tent. Nice video. That’s some of my favorite territory.

I found several springs, but did not try them, I saw people filling up water jugs. I will plan to the next time I get back to ANF. Yes the other town is Ridgway. Thanks for watching!

Very nice. I still say it should be illegal for jeep to sell the Wrangler with an automatic transmission.

Thanks for watching my videos, subscribe if you can. It will be tough for me to get over there, but would be fun. I may try to go with some folks down into Kentucky this summer for a week. But we will see. I don't think I will make it out there this year. I do want to get to Vermont and Maryland though, I have watched some overlanders go into those areas and had some good camping and overlanding. What kind of rig do you have? Thanks again for watching.

I also wanted to congratulate you on Season 3. I really appreciate a humble guy learning to Overland locally in Ohio (and Pennsylvania) and sharing with the rest of us. You have shown there is a lot of overlanding opportunities in Ohio just a few hours away. Great job.

Thanks for the encouragement! I am looking forward to camping in the snow! There are some great places to go and as I go into surrounding states I am sure we can find some good places that are within 3-5 hours. Although I would love to sometime go Moab and AZ, and Alaska and overland and camp!! Have a great Christmas!

Loved it! I grew up in NW Pa. in both Meadville and Oil City. Went to Clarion University in Clarion, Pa. Haven't been to the Forest in many many years. Loved the view of the Tionesta Dam. I was in that very spot a couple of years ago as I have a fraternity brother who lives in Warren, Pa. which is close to Tionesta. If you ever feel like having an extra old guy and Shorty the dog tag along, my Gazelle tent and gear is always ready to go. Great trip Matt. Thank's for sharing.

I was up in the ANF back in July, doing some fly fishing for native trout and dispersed camping. Had a great time with new streams and a new campsite every night. Was hoping to get back there now in January to do the same, although my schedule hasn’t seen eye to eye with me. Hopefully soon though. I was dying as I watched you stop at those two streams, I so wished I was there with fly rod in hand. Anyway I am from central NJ and love seeing places that aren’t really all that far away. I think the wife and I are headed out to Ohio in March for a week so some of your stuff might come in handy. Thanks for sharing! Look forward to more adventures

I enjoyed your video. The various bridges and streams you pass by look awesome. The overlanding you do adds so much to your trip and video. My Tacoma doesn’t have a winch so not as confident as you when going solo. I was camping this week (Ohio) with overnight lows in the 20s as well. My water strategy is to measure out my water for coffee and oatmeal in my pot and French press the night before. Even if they freeze I can boil in those pots in the morning. Also I have a 2 liter Bubba double wall bottle I put Hot water in the night before and the water is still warm in the morning. I need to learn the Gaia app as it seems to work well for you.

@@rubiconmatt Ha, that is an interesting question since both in the overland world and ham radio world, "the term "rigs" apply to different things. At this point, I'm not an overlander, more of a backpacker. Most of my gear is ultra light but I needed the Gazelle for vehicle based camping. I just retired so am looking for a "rig", maybe a Jeep or Broncho to do some land based exploring to take me to more remote trailheads...also in a rig I will put my radio rigs. BTW, noticed lots of overlanders have their amateur radio license for communication.

well, I only took a couple. The route along the clarion river where I camped and then there are dirt roads that branch off and climb up to 2000 ft elevation were really good and then then I worked my way over to the road that i show on Gaia during the video. Much more to explore for sure.
