S3:E7 STOP BITING ON FAKES PLUS EXTRA TIPS
Raise your hand if you have ever bitten on a fake…….yup .. all of us. Raise your hand if you have ever been torched on a 2 - 1? Do you truly know your role and responsibility on a 2 - 1? Do you know your D’s job? We get into two really good drills and one kind of funky drill where the coach might shoot one into your head or mid section and you aren’t allowed to move..
And we see some simple game action clips of Josh using some movement drills to stay warm in game as well as examples of two simple things he does really well that are often overlooked.
And next week I reveal the serious reason why I shut @trav4oilers out…..

Gotta give Keeks all of the props in the world for coming through on what he says he would. I reached out to him, via email, and he responded so quickly my head spin. He then made the most generous offer, his time, to speak with my son, three time zones away. He makes great videos and backs them up by being an incredible human being. Thank you Keeks for all of it.

Great video Keek's. Tons of great information. One thing with my goalie, he often bites on the fake then he relies on his athleticism to try and make the save. Keep the content rolling.

The most Canadian transition ever!! Love it. Great video as always. The Statue Drill must be murder for a goalie. Hard to not budge and say "Thank you sir, may I have another".

Yes… the goalies need to trust the shooter, but on some level a little counter intuitive but is REALLY makes them assess puck trajectory. I created a second variation as well where the drill has the same set up. but…… the goalie has to do everything possible to avoid getting hit with the puck. The bottom line is that to get out of the way you just be watching the pucks flight. They are fun little drills especially for the little guys. It really gets them waiting to see where puck is going.

Good advice. My 13yr old son just had his "worst" game giving up 9 out of 47 shots. 1 was clean over his shoulder. A few on break aways, some 2 and 3 on none. A few on the 2nd and 3rd rebound. He got a penalty for tripping which was actually him just playing the puck out of the crease to stop the next pass/back door.

The guys hit the boards behind the net, and a frigg’n leaf comes falling down. I’m thinking, “this ain’t outdoor hockey, where did that come from?”, then the transition hits. Good one.

I would set up a mirror in the basement and put your pads gloves and stick on. In a controlled way just work on driving the right shoulder and leading with your stick… do that for 15-20 minutes a couple of times and repeat on the ice quickly during warmups and it should imprint over time

I noticed that at the 6:00 mark, as the goalie is doing the Telescoping and Retreating, he drives the same leg to stop on each side (his right). Do you recommend switching it up, and if so, should the drive be the outside leg each time, or should we practice driving the inside to develop more ambidextrous control? Beginner here in net (age 52), so I want to keep details like this consistent.
@FutureProGoaltending
@FutureProGoaltending Жыл бұрын
I would ensure both legs are quality developed Stopping wise. (Bilateral skill balance) You would likely never be stopping as a shot it released so I wouldn’t worry at your stage which leg you chose, although generally you would stop with outside leg (closest to boards) as most threats would likely be going across to the other side and that makes a push to the middle easier.

Hey Steve! What do you mean specifically by dominating the level you're at right now (when talking about whether to move to a better league)? Minimum .920 sv%? .930? Thanks ahead.
@FutureProGoaltending
@FutureProGoaltending 2 жыл бұрын
If an intelligent hockey observer that is not related to you, would say you are clearly far superior to your competition. And if you have real stats not calculated by a relative in the .930 range I would say you would be ready to move up

I will say that at lower levels of Hockey such as drop in and open skates I much prefer the D man takes the shooter. That allows the shooter to screw up the pass and the receiver to screw up the reception and then possibly screw up the shot. Three more chances to prevent the goal.

Long time ago - early 1990's, I was watching an NCAA Div III men's game, and the visiting team's goalie would do the figure 8 corner skating after the ref blew the whistle. All three periods. I never understood why until now.

That rink is the one I learned to skate on as a kid. It was built in the early 50’s. As a kid it has chain link behind the nets instead of glass and there was no glass at all on the side boards… the Montreal Canadiens and the Detroit Red Wings played exhibition games there during the original 6 days as they would often play local Senior teams. Actual tons of photos of the Rocket and Gordie Howe playing on that ice
