As people have stated in the comments, this is a cover of a Motörhead song. The video is full of references to other wars and songs by Sabaton. The two guys standing in the door opening at 5:35 are Mikkey Dee and Phil Campbell, the drummer and the guitarist of Motörhead. The picture at 5:41 is of Lemmy Kilmister, who was the bassist and singer of Motörhead and the guy holding it is Eddie Rocha who was the tour manager for Motörhead and the current one for Sabaton.

I had a chance meeting with Lemmy way back in 2005. His look honestly worried me, but he was the coolest guy.

US Navy vet here. Tx for your service bro! Yeah, Day 1 of the Somme Offensive was "the black day of the British Army" in 1916. Sabaton teaches us Americans more abt World War 1 we learned in school (nxt to nothing). As an American, if you're interested in some Sabaton "USA WW1 songs" try: "The Lost Battalion" "82nd All the Way" "Devil Dogs" & "Hellfighters."

Thank you! First for your service, secondly for your reaction to this spectacular band and third for letting the credits and ourto music play out. I'm relatively new to Sabaton but have nothing but respect and love for their craft. Thanks again!

I love Sabaton, thanks for the reaction! The singer, Joakim Brodèn, sang in a cooperation with italian band Nanowar of Steel some time ago, there is a really fun video for the song "Pasadena 1994", it is about the FiFa finale. Maybe that kind of "battle" is also interesting for you?

An epic and fitting tribute to Lemmy and all of the soldiers throughout history who marched off to fight, and sometimes die, for their homelands. RIP, you are missed and appreciated.

In case it wasn't clear: this song is a cover version by the title track of the 1991 album by the legendary Motörhead. You may have heard of them - one of the most beloved and influential bands in heavy metal history, directly influencing the likes of Metallica (who proudly acknowledge it, too). "1916" is very different from any other song of Motörhead's extensive catalogue - they are mostly famous for their gritty, lightning-fast, thunderous rock'n'roll metal on classic songs like "Ace of spades", "Overkill", "Killed by death" and "Shine". On the other hand, it's quite representative of the multi-faceted talent of Ian "Lemmy" Kilmister: Motörhead's singer, bassist and undisputed leader. And the obvious choice of Motörhead song for Sabaton to cover, as well. As you may have noticed, Sabaton paid homage to Lemmy in several places in this video, some of which are kind of subtle unless you're very much a heavy metal devotee! For instance, one of the flags seen raised in the video is one with the Motörhead logo and artwork of the "1916" album. There is also a cameo appearance by the two surviving members of Motörhead, guitarist Phil Campbell and drummer Mikkey Dee. Lemmy himself succumbed to cancer on December 28th, 2015, four years after his 70th birthday, and having just celebrated the 40th anniversary of Motörhead as a band. The whole metal community grieved the loss of one of the most iconic frontmen and bandleaders in our genre's history, as well as one of the most intelligent, well-spoken and humanitarian characters that any genre has ever seen. The memory and legacy of Motörhead, however, lives on forever. The horrors of WWI is not an unusual topic for the more ambitius heavy metal bands to tackle - one great example would be the epic "Paschendale" by the mega-legendary Iron Maiden. If you ever feel like reacting, or just listen to that song, it will be eight minutes well spent.

Beautiful reaction, thank you! And here's my obligatory mention of a cool and more than just a little creepy detail for those who know: Around the middle of the video the crowd/parade comes across a lovely early 20th century ecru-coloured convertible that's standing abandoned in the middle of the street. This is the car that *Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria* and his (morganatic) wife *Sophie Chotek, Duchess Hohenberg* bled to death in on the 28th of June 1914 in Sarajevo, touching off the poetically named *Seminal Tragedy,* less poetically referred to as the *The July Crisis* which then obviously led to *The Great War* , sometimes, very correctly in my opinion, called *The Apocalypse of the Old World.* This one empty coupe in a very real sense is the Pale Horse Conquest rode in on with War and Pestilence and Hunger in it's train, signifying an apocalypse in a *very real sense,* the End of *a* World, the breakdown of a known world order and for millions in the ~40 years after this an all-consuming maelstrom of blood and steel and gas and powder hundreds of millions would perish in. This is the start of Europe's most bloody period of history (and that's saying something...) and while we might consider WW1 and WW2 distinct periods the truth is that in Central and Eastern Europe and for that matter vast stretches of the world there *was no peace* between 1914 and ~1950... I also feel it's a signifier of the level of knowledge that Sabaton by now has reached in dealing with historical matters, especially when compared to their initial albums. Best regards Raoul G. Kunz

Most of the volunteers would have been given 2 weeks of training, this would be how to fire and maintain your gun, how to dig trenches, and marching drills. They were completely unprepared for the common battles that were to come and paid the price in young mens lives.

Excellent reaction and commentary. Yes, it's too bad that we apparently need terrible examples such as the 1916 slaughter to improve in life. I read posts on news media, calling for civil war or WW3, or saying that these wars are "inevitable." That's the same BS argument that got WW1 started: The chant of spoiled kings, Victoria's grandchildren, trying to start a war. Then, when the soldiers were lined up, these kings got cold feet and tried to stop it, but the generals were in charge by then. So, the kings retreated to their castles and chateaus, to discuss the war with champagne and caviar, while the slaughter of millions of people began. (Many of these Brit guys were bullied into joining by women handing them white feathers, the symbol of cowardice). The ramifications of WW1, not to mention WW2, are still scarring the people who lost great granddads, granddads, and relatives in these wars. The battlefields at the Somme, Verdun, Paschendale, etc, still give up the dead when the fields get muddy with rain. Anyone who blithely calls for war should be required to stay in the Douaumont Ossucary basement for a week, with some water and bread. Maybe it takes a week among the WW1 dead to convince people that war just isn't a problem-solver.

War is only inevitable when we don't try to find other venues to reach an agreement peacefully, but history shows how world leaders are always about "my way and my way alone, no alternatives allowed."

@@dragonwolf4094 Yes, great analysis of the structure of war. Lately, I've become wary of the word "leader." The US is based on a system of public servants, with the Constitution and B ill of Rights designed to stop tyrants. (A constant struggle, as the Founders knew). If people can realize the inversion, that citizens allow public servants to work for them, but not tell citizens what to do, then we have a chance to stop carnage. Best Regards!

@@scottfarley3644 since you and the people that upvote people like you are too slow to google anything, here's the AI response from google: "The Flynn effect is the long-term increase in standardized intelligence test scores, particularly fluid intelligence, that has been observed in many parts of the world over the 20th century. It's named after researcher James Flynn, who first documented the effect in 1984 in a study of Stanford-Binet and Wechsler intelligence tests. The effect is about 3 IQ points per decade." 3 iq per decade, 7 decades from ww2, 3x7 = 21 or about 20 iq points. obviously the increase in intelligence skips a few unlucky morons but on average everyone is way smarter
