Exactly near Wizna, 730 Polish soldiers fought with 42,000 German soldiers. The Poles had several guns, and the Germans supported themselves with tanks, armored cars, dozens of guns and aircraft. The Poles defended themselves for three days. To the last bunker where the commander, Captain Raginis, died. I would like to emphasize that this was not a regular Polish army. It was poorly armed border guards.

@@globus9710 What are you writing, these are facts. Guderian's 22nd division was attacking Wizna's positions, of course there were not that many at one time, but yes, 42,000 to 720

@@tweeti111 Guderian wasnt a division commander. We have a tons of fairly new research done by polish historians about Wizna so we know exactly how it looked like. Actual battle didn't last three days and wehrmacht's loses were minimal

@@tweeti111 cool, so he was corps commander, not division. Anyway since you were able to look that up now try to find info when given units actually arrived at Wizna. Especially when heavy artillery arrived and what was the biggest problem for Wehrmacht. A hint: despite heroism of some of ordinary polish soldiers it wasn't them that brought Germans to a halt for three days

Great reaction and what an awesome start of 2024!🎉 Sabaton's songwriting has always been brilliant, impeccable and all in between. They have the ability to put us right in the middle of the event! That's one of the reasons Sabaton is my favourite band! 🤘 They have so many great songs also from the earlier days. A lot gems. I'd love to see more reactions to those. How much we love Hannes and Tommy, their previous members also did an awesome job on the journey until this day.

We are very brave warriors, always fighting for the freedom of our homeland, until the end. Death or freedom. We took part in many battles of World War II

8:20 onwards or so, my understanding is that in the 17 century the polish deluge was the first major cultural memory of multiple forces fighting against Poland. You had the Swedes, the Russians and the Cossack uprising, (to oversimplify the involvement of other powers). About a century later, in the 18th century Poland had been partitioned by 3 foreign adversaries cooperating and was practically gone for over a century, (to oversimplify the involvement of other powers). Eventually after ww1 "concluded" and Poland was finally re-recognised as independent it was immediately in a war again, - as a crumbling Russian state wanted to reclaim it's imperial lands against its revolutionary uprisings and national independence uprisings - and - Poland wanted to reclaim historical lands (in a concoction of other independence movements including the Ukrainian one). Barely, poland peaced out by beating Russia in an important battle and there weren't many years before ww2 came along - (which again in the polish narrative was a cooperation between Russia and Germany in the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact) Eventually Poland was "freed" from the Nazi rule by it's "allies"... by being "sold" by the west to the eastern imperial structure of the soviets that set up a puppet government and soviet policies, (to oversimplify the involvement of other powers) I'm by no means a a scholar TLDR The song is about the Battle of Wizna which according to records, had 40:1 odds while it lasted - but numbers seem uncertain and it didn't last very long so it's within expectations - if it reached that peak for a short while. Comparing Poland before the partitions to Poland at the start of ww2 isn't a apples to apples comparison. 40 to 1 is surely might be an exaggerated extrapolation but it reflects the spirit of Poland surviving despite adversity, even and especially when they're outnumbered. Just trying to play the devils advocate on both sides of this argument but ofc bias can't be completely eliminated. Still, Slavic Europe is an interesting area of inquiry.

IN case anyone wonders.. its about a small group of polish soldiers (1000) that held a big amount of german soldiers (40000) for 3 days when germany attacked poland.. i think nobody on the polish side survived but its a tale of dedication thats why sabaton wrote a song about it Ive got a Tommy story as well.. i stood at urinal in a small venue in Stockholm (Brothers of Metal were playing) and Tommy stood right next to me at the urinal.. i was amazed how tall this guy next to me was and it took me a good 30 seconds until i recognized him and i started to talk to him he is the nicest guy ever..

They did not flight against 40000 Germans at once but that should go without saying. Also there is no true in statement that nobody survived. There were lots of POWs and deserters

During Ist World War Poland wasn't on the map of Europe because was occupate since 123 years by German, Russia and Austria. After 1st Warld War Polish politics, writters and artist also soliders wich was in France gen. Haller and this Poles witch go out of German, Russian and Autrian army take back Poland on the map. Paderewski have a speach on the Congress at Wersal in Paris and that decide to turn back Poland in 1918. Polish have a small but good scientes army witch stopped Soviet Soldiers in 1920. Poland was free 20 years until Nazi Hitler's German army attack Polsih in 1st september 1939. German have a military packt (Ribbentropp - Molotov) and 17 september 1939 from the east of Poland attack Soviet Soldiers. Poland battle about one month. Wizna river battle was a very brave time when 720 polish solider defend yourself against 42.000 German soliders, tanks and Luftwaffe (it was called Polish Termopile). For one killed polish solider become 40 killed german attack soliders. Most of defended polish solider are dead, only few goes to german slave.
