========= Midway LYRICS ==========
Send them over the waves
Our sentinels
They report in the news
Position of our foes
This battlefield’s been chosen, tactically in advance
Time to alert our fighters
We’re soon in range
Midway
We’ll meet at Midway
Naval War
Calling all men to deck
Got to be airborne
Head out into the sun
Descending on our foes
This is the crucial moment, in the heat of the war
To fly and hit our targets
Down in the waves
Midway
Display their might, ordering carriers, admirals at war
We’ll meet at Midway
To win the fight, tactics are crucial, naval war
Far from shore, a pacific war
bombs are falling from the skies
It’s a bombrun day, it’s the naval way
A bloodred sun is on the rise
Far from shore, a pacific war

========= Historic Fact ==========
The Battle of Midway began on June 4, 1942. It marked a turning point in the Pacific Theatre of World War II and was fought almost entirely with aircraft. During this battle, the USA destroyed most of Japan’s aircraft carriers and eliminated its best trained naval pilots. It subsequently ended the threat of a Japanese invasion in the Pacific.

@Furydragonstormer
@Furydragonstormer 2 жыл бұрын
Midway was basically the turning point that also was where Japan realized how futile in the end the war against America was going to be, their Kido Butai was shattered, four of six carriers were brought down in a ruthless counter attack. Kaga was pummeled to oblivion with so many bombs that they lost count how many were dropped on her, Akagi was sent up in flames by the mistake of Nagumo by a single bomb from Dick Best, Soryu was brought down low by aircraft by the crippled Yorktown, and Hiryu's pilots gave one last effort but ended up being brought down as well. A battle that was inspiring to America and moral crippling to Japan, several thousands lost in pretty much one battle. Pearl Harbour was avenged, four of its six assailants were defeated, at only the cost of Yorktown and Hammann.

Had Shoukaku not taken severe damage months prior and Zuikaku not lost many of her fighter group, their participation in Midway could of been enough to have changed the outcome of the war. Midway almost went real south for the US Navy as Yorktown's dive bombers lost all of their bombs because of a faulty fail safe device that prematurely dropped the bombs instead of securing it, effectively making them slow lumbering fighter planes that could not dogfight. Enterprise's bomber group effectively got lost and were steering way off course. They were really lucky to have found IJN Arashi, having wasted 30 minutes in a duel against a US submarine that it never sank, realize it would essentially lose contact with the fleet and began streaming off so fast that the Enterprise bombers could tell from the wake she was making what direction the Japanese carrier task force had to be at.

@@WatcherMovie008 I'm pretty sure It'll be an even fight as yorktown wouldn't be injured by the battle of the coral reef as well, but as sun tzu said it best (paraphrased) "The key to not lose is within your hands, but the key to victory lay within your enemy's hands" Which roughly means that the amount of mistakes done by the IJN had given the US the golden opportunity

@@takebacktheholyland9306 They really underestimated how butthurt the average American would get over Pearl Harbor, or how impossibly large America's manufacturing base was compared to basically anyone else at that point. It was a good idea to attack Pearl Harbor, but afaik the actual battle fleet wasn't in harbor, just a buncha old boats being scuttled or repaired. Still, I don't think anyone was expecting America to go from isolationist, to seemingly crippled, to fielding a massive fuckoff military in only like 6 months.

What makes Midway such a decisive battle is that 5 minutes between 1020-1025 when the Akagi Kaga and Soryu all where hit and later sunk from their damage. Then later when the Hiryu was hit and scuttled. Those 4 carriers were 2/3s or their front line carrier strength and Japan really didn't have the means to out produce the USA in tonnage of shipping. Yes we lost the Yorktown however we still had 4 more carriers left with 15 Essex class on the way plus all of the light carriers under construction.

Is it just me or was the Saratoga under repair for a really long time? They had the Yorktown battle ready in 72 hours after reaching Pearl harbor but the Sara was what? Having her bulkheads padded? The Yorktown took heavy damage at the Coral Sea, the Japanese never expected her to ready for Midway but there she was. I'd also think the Wasp would have far better been used in the Pacific, wasn't she near Gibraltar on anti-sub duty or something? I can't see the CICPAC allocating such a valuable resource to the Atlantic when the needed flattops so badly in the Pacific. Midway was a great victory anyway and the moreso for having shown how fast they could work when they needed to. Without the Yorktown I doubt they would have had the strength necessary for torpedo planes to do their thing. I'm pretty sure all 3 carriers lost all their TBDs, they only carried one squadron each anyway...
@haroldbenton979
@haroldbenton979 2 ай бұрын
@TiberiusMachado Saratoga had taken a long lance style of torpedo in January that destroyed 3 boiler rooms and opened a gash of about 100 feet along her hull in spots. Then she was returned to Bremerton to be modernized with more and better AA protection she got some of the first dual 5/38s in the fleet along with dual and quad 40mm bofors and 20mm orlikins. She also was fitted with a torpedo protection bulkhead for the first time ever along with boiler replacement and machinery upgrades new radars. All this was done in just under 60 working days. So while she missed the battle of Midway she got there on the 6th. She was the ace in the hole so to speak she brought in replacement planes for Hornet Enterprise and Midway itself plus her full airgroup. If Yamamoto had been foolish enough to attempt the landings he would have been facing fully equipped carriers with Midway having a full air wing also. UT would have been suicidal to even think about it.

That right there, I can put on the list with the best decisions I did in my life, I became a fan right from that moment, and from that moment, it only got better, every time Sabaton does a new song, is like the definitions of epic have been successful update. This is one of my favorite Sabaton songs, but I especially like the line "a blood-red sun is on the rise". Because if you think about it, that's literally the flag of Japan: a blood-red, rising sun. Really clever!

This one truly hit home for me. My great-grandfather on my Dad's side served in the Pacific Theatre of WW2. He was shot during battle, but lived to tell the tale of the Pacific and its many horrors. Although from what my dad has told me, my great-grandfather didn't really talk about it. Shockingly, this was the very battle during which my great-grandfather was shot.

The only problem I've ever had with this song, is that if it wasn't for the lyrics specifying that it's at Midway, the song could be about any naval battle with aircraft carriers. This song focuses much more on the fact that aircraft carriers are doing the fighting, along with the tactics and naval intelligence that goes along with them than what actually happened in the battle. Keep up making the great music! Maybe you can make an album focusing on the Pacific Theater at some point, and if you do, I hope you come back to Midway and sing about some of the coincidences that led up to those fateful 5 minutes.

I'm glad you didn't say TBD. Although the glory goes to the dive bombers If it hadnt been for the unintentional sacrifice of over 40 torpedo planes and all but one man, luring the Zeros down to sea level, having them give up altitude and expend ammunition... I guess that's the point isn't it. And the intuition of the leader of one of the dive bomber squadrons, who accidentally dropped his own bomb prematurely while arming it, but kept with his squadron and led them to the enemy. Several other planes also dropped prematurely but they also pressed on. They could give the impression of larger numbers, split up the AA and fighter protection and even go down to the deck to straff.

Non song is identical to another, yet they all tell the same story of courage with the right amount of energy to bring over the intensity of each battle. I have never seen a better way to teach history, bring such songs in every school, and the lessons will be learned far better than with just reading out a text or asking questions. Keep up the good job you all have such a great talent, and there are still so many goods themes out there, just look at Ukraine and the fight the fighters in the Azov-Steelworks are putting up, this is the stuff legends are made of, and tales about them will still be recounted around camp fires in 100 years!
