I always remember the story of Rommel during WWI when he captured 9000 men at the Battle of Caporetto with just 150 men (of which only six died) in just two days. "The offensive, known as the Battle of Caporetto, began on 24 October 1917. Rommel's battalion, consisting of three rifle companies and a machine gun unit, was part of an attempt to take enemy positions on three mountains: Kolovrat, Matajur, and Stol. In two and a half days, from 25 to 27 October, Rommel and his 150 men captured 81 guns and 9,000 men (including 150 officers), at a loss of six dead and 30 wounded. Rommel achieved this remarkable success by taking advantage of the terrain to outflank the Italian forces, attacking from unexpected directions or behind enemy lines, and taking the initiative to attack when he had orders to the contrary. In one instance, the Italian forces, taken by surprise and believing that their lines had collapsed, surrendered after a brief firefight. In this battle, Rommel helped pioneer infiltration tactics, a new form of maneuver warfare just being adopted by German armies, and later by foreign armies and described by some as Blitzkrieg without tanks."

the funtest par ro me abot Rommel at Caporeto is that what he did was technically counterro his standing orders but German combat doctrine was the idea of "Aufdragstaktik " Mission-Oriented tactics in English, these means thatin certen circumstances infantree officers coukd be loud to go against standig orders to seize the imitative in a dynamic battlefield situation

9:33 star wars stormtrooper weapon The E-11 was a BlasTech-manufactured blaster rifle used standardly by the Empire's stormtroopers. The weapon had a telescopic sight and fired red plasma. Adjustment controls were located behind the scope on the louvered barrel. Mounted in front of the Magnatomic Sticky Knob grip was the fused trigger. Some of the deadly blasters have been taken over by rebels. Backstage Like many weapons in the first films, this blaster rifle was made from a real weapon, the English Sterling submachine gun. MP34

The only real problem with tanks is that early tanks had motors on a par with cars of the time (bad generally) were extremely heavy while not being all that well armored (the main idea was bulletproof, and only mostly, heavy rounds like 50 cal could go straight through, in fact antitank rifles were a thing) and their mobility was limited. Point of saying all that is, like planes, tanks didn't have a big impact on the war. Britain and France won because the US started pouring fresh troops in at the very end, both sides were exhausted at that point

If anyone has ever seen a gangster movie with say a Thompson sub machine gun, like alcapone and the like or even aliens, where a storm trooper would literally pop his head over the trench and could unload eighty rounds into a bunch of soldiers hiding or covering themselves to prevent them from getting gassed or blown to pieces, and sometimes these storm troopers would be given drugs and combat stims just to boost their combat lethality as well as their combat effectiveness, and imagine that, you as a common soldier sitting two trenches behind the front lines, sitting down having a mug of tea when a meter to your right you hear a clatter clatter of something only to tee six of your friends blow up ad their entrails and offel cover you, and as you wipe the blood and gore from your eyes you see a short little man wearing a gas mask pop up from the other side of your trench only to pull out a machine gun and starts unloading into you and everyone around you

I wanna say that when the flamethrowers were first introduced, many soldiers soon died after using it because of them being ill equipped. Their hands would practically melt slowly as the tube heated up. They also could catch fire themselves. Me personally, I hate the idea of flamethrowers because I have been burned before, and to have that sensation go all over you body just sounds horrifying to me. The pain that would come with it...just absolutely horrible. Do you guys know if they outlawed flamethrowers in war?

9:33 MP18 or MP34. The MP18 was the first submachine gun to go into mass production. She became towards the end The MP18 was the first submachine gun to go into mass production. She became towards the end Production time: 1918 to 1920 developed by Theodor Bergmann and Hugo Schmeisser in the German Reich during the First World War and was delivered to the German front-line troops (mainly assault battalions) in 1918 under the designation MP18. By the end of the war, Theodor Bergmann Waffenbau had produced around 35,000 of these weapons. The MP18 was specially developed for trench warfare, since even a light machine gun like the MG 08/15 was too heavy and a rifle didn't have the necessary rate of fire. Unlike the light machine guns (Lewis Gun, Chauchat) used by most Allied forces towards the end of the war, the MP18, like the Italian M1918 Beretta, could be operated by one man and fired in well-aimed bursts while on the move. It was superior in every respect to the "Langen Pistole 08", which was often used on the German side for trench warfare. A weak point of the MP18 were the drum magazines initially used in the 08 pistol, they were very unwieldy and could only be loaded with special tools. The MP18, also known as the "trench sweeper", was one of the reasons why the Treaty of Versailles banned the German Reich from producing automatic weapons. After the First World War, the MP18 was equipment for the police and was used by them until 1945. A further development was the MP28, which differed only slightly from the MP18 and was designated MP28.II (Roman 2). For the MP18, the designation MP18.I (Roman 1) was applied retrospectively at this time star wars stormtrooper weapon The E-11 was a BlasTech-manufactured blaster rifle used standardly by the Empire's stormtroopers. The weapon had a telescopic sight and fired red plasma. Adjustment controls were located behind the scope on the louvered barrel. just a correction, machine guns did not start the stalemate at all, artillery did, the by far and i mean by far major killer in ww1 and all wars since, and even before during the 1800s. People entrenched do to artillery not machineguns, machineguns already existed like the maxim which had already been in use for decades and decades before ww1, and it gave an advantage to whomever had them, but artillery was the major killer, even in the Sudan war, one hit dropped hundreds, and with the new and faster mechanisms of reloading and stabilizing artillery it made it a dominant force. Artillery plus lines of entrenchments and fortifications led to the stalemate, a prolonged siege, at least in the Western front and Italian Front while the Eastern front, Balkan front, Middle Eastern front and East African front are different stories, more wars of maneuver with the occasional entrenchment. in ww2 you have the katyusha, but the germans had the Nebelwerfers long before, and it was devastating to soviet troops, "hundreds of soldiers dead without any sign of wounds" the airblast was enough to kill alot of people without exterior injury which initially left the soviets shocked thinking the germans had a weapon that vacuumed the air, so much so any captured crew was immediatly shot, the germans started doing the same to katyusha crews. Also the "Blitzkrieg" which the Whermacht disliked that term and did not use it because it was not something new or different and it did not origniate from ww1 stormroopers, its much older, it was just standard old school Prussian tactics to them which it was, Schewrpunkt - "Spearpoint", focusing your elite troops on the enemies weak point.

Ya. I knew what the stormtroopers were before the song. But my wife was super confused because Sabaton does historical songs. What the stormtrooper is is in the name. When you think back to old terms or phrases, "storm the castle". A stormtrooper is a trooper that storms. And the reason they'd have their own name and not just be regular troopers would be that they're specially equipped or trained for storming. And their rise in WW I would've meant trench warfare. So the stormtrooper would've been those who're special for storming trenches.

Thanks for the great reaction to a great video. And thanks for the history lesson. As a German, of course I already knew about the shock troops. However, not in the depth that I now have through the song and the research. It's really interesting how much changed in the way of warfare during the First World War. But I have to disagree with you on one point. I don't think many men need to convince their wives to go to a Sabaton concert. 😋 Statistics say that about 40% of concert-goers are women. (mentioned in the video for night witches pt. 2 on Sabaton history) in my case it will be the other way around, that i will persuade my husband to come with me. 😉

Ok I didn't know the trench raiders were called stormtroopers. I thought that started in WW2. I also didn't know they wore armor. You said bayonets, but truthfully a bayonet and rifle were often too long for tight trenches. Worth noting much of the role in US forces (everyone fought this way, the names for it were just different) was taken up by US Marines who were equipped with shotguns, which the Germans protested. Pershing was like you're ok with gas and machine guns but no shotguns? Right. Great reaction!
@m2hmghb
@m2hmghb 2 жыл бұрын
Bayonets usually weren't attached to the rifle when used in the trench. The trench knife became common - which was the length or slightly short then a bayonet but it often had brass knuckles or some other type of guard to protect the hand. The shotgun was used by US forces, typically in the riot configuration with a 20 inch barrel.
@fredbarnes2600
@fredbarnes2600 2 жыл бұрын
@@m2hmghb I did know all that yeah, and a bewildering array of whatever soldiers could lay hands, on axes, clubs, kitchen knives whatever, sometimes homemade. The creation of sub guns would have had a huge effect, as apparently did the shotgun given the German response. You probably already know about it, but Matt Easton on the Scholaglatitoria (probably butchered that) channel has a very interesting video on trench knives.

@History_with_Sirius

A7V did see combat at the end of the war, against three British Mark IV tanks. One male and two female tanks. The battle itself was anticlimactic honestly. But is believed to be the first tank on tank combat if I recall correctly. The battle was at Villers-Bretonneux, near the end of April 1918.
@Mischnikvideos
@Mischnikvideos 2 жыл бұрын
@@History_with_Sirius I didn't know, thanks. There were a total of 20 units that rolled towards the front 50 days before the end of the war. The encounter of the four tanks was disappointing for the English. The German Panzer was able to eliminate the two females and then had to retreat, badly damaged. Shortly thereafter, artillery hit the third English tank and it had to be abandoned. A "mighty" victory for the German army, which had no meaning for the course of the war. But hey, the first battle went to the Germans and the tanks had held up well throughout the attack.
