Did you ever hear the tragedy of King Gustavus The Wise? I thought not. It’s not a story the Catholics would tell you. It’s a Lutheran legend. King Gustavus was a King of Sweden, so powerful and so wise he could use his military wit to lead his armies to victory in battle… He had such a knowledge of tactics that he could even save Protestants from the Holy Roman Empire. Lutheranism is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural. He became so powerful… the only thing he was afraid of was losing his own family to the Catholic Church, which eventually, of course, he did. Unfortunately, he taught daughter everything he knew, then his daughter converted after abdicating her throne. Ironic. He could save others from Catholicism, but not his daughter.

Even though Carolus Rex is a very strong album - it is my favorite not because of the separate songs themselves (which are awesome) but the concept itself. It is amazing how through music you are able to drag so many foreigners to see a part of your history! As a bulgarian I have never been interested in the history of any other country (besides what affects Bulgaria or the whole world like world wars), but here I am. Learning about Swedish history! And I love it! :) The bilingual version of the album just adds to the epicness that is overwhelming anyway. So creating an episode (or as it seems episodeS) for the history that inspired that conceptual album is SO ON SPOT! Well done, Sabaton! And well done Sabaton History! :)

I read about Christina after listening to Carolus Rex. It's such an interesting story, and I'm glad you took the time to talk about it, even though it's not a typical Sabaton topic.

I like this idea of a series about Untold Stories related to Sabaton's songs, and shedding light on events that have happened before or after. Looking forward to more of these!

I find this to be a very interesting look into Swedish history. As a dane, I think that most history about Sweden that I have read has been from a danish narrative where the swedes are the big enemy. And of course, Denmark and Sweden have indeed had a lot of deep conflicts about how should have power over Scandinavia but I feel that a lot goes missing when you are not listing to the other side of the story IE the Swedish one. So thank you for providing that.

There's one thing that I'd like to know. IIRC, in the movie "The Girl King" it was shown that it was Christina who ordered Königsmarck to attack Prague in 1648 (that battle was covered in the song "1648"), because she wanted the art collection that was stored there. I just wanted to know: is it true, or was it artistic license? (I thought that if it was true, it might be mentioned in this episode, linking it to "1648" as well and giving us a new perspective for that battle...)

I am so happy this is an episode, i love the CR album and the story it tells, the story goes across the entire album and not just one song, its truly special and i love it because its both badass and amazing history, which is strange because i'm from Australia and don't speak a word of Swedish, but i do love history and that's all you need to love this album

So strange. I grew up along the Delaware River, and one school trip took us kids to the New Castle Courthouse, now a museum in New Castle Delaware. We were in middle school, so barely paid attention to the history of the area and Delaware River, at least not to the extent of the American Revolution and Philadelphia. There was some talk of Sweden, the Netherlands, England, and then the US, and four flags, but it didn't sink in, and wasn't taught in schools. A few years ago, I revisited New Castle to ride on the Kalmer Nyckel, a replica of a 17th century ship. Looking back on those photos, I suddenly noticed, due to Sabaton songs, a Swedish flag flying from the top of the ship. And at the courthouse, there, amongst the American, the British, and the Netherlands flags, was the Swedish flag. So, dropping less important things (like paying bills) I quickly researched Wikipedia, and found that the home where I grew up was in the area claimed by Sweden, as New Sweden, basically all along the Delaware River. New Sweden lasted from 1638 to 1655, when the Dutch took over, in a basically peaceful transition. Christina's name has been changed a bit, but there is the Christiana River, and the ChristianaCare medical services. There is also 1933 film "Queen Christina, " starring Swedish actress Greta Garbo. This is a great movie (if parts are fiction). The beginning shows the little girl being crowned "king" at the age of 6, and then when she's grown up, and pushes to end the 30 year war. Garbo gives a great speech, but not sure if it's "real" : "Spoils. Glory. Flags and trumpets. What is behind these high sounding words ? Death and destruction. Triumphals of crippled men. Sweden victorious in a ravaged Europe. An island in a dead sea. I tell you, I want no more of it! I want for my people, security and happiness. I want to cultivate the arts of peace. The arts of life! I want peace and peace I will have!"

One of my best friends is Swedish he lives in Sweden and we play video games and talk almost on a daily basis but yet there are times when he can't express what he's saying in English because he can't figure out how to say it in English and it's one reason why in a lot of ways I'm trying more to learn Swedish then I was before
