In six days, God created the heavens and the earth. On the seventh day, He rested. How does the order of creation in Genesis 1 teach us about the ultimate goal of the world and of our own lives? In this message, R.C. Sproul reflects on the biblical theme of Sabbath rest.
This message is from Dr. Sproul’s 12-part teaching series Themes from Genesis. Learn more: www.ligonier.org/learn/series...

No one man is to be called Holy, only God Almighty Is Holy. All created beings are sinners. Believers in the gospel are covered by His righteousness for salvation not theirs.

Christians that deny the assembling of the Saints are fighting against their own purpose/reason for existence. To take a day to rest from our labor To take our focus off of ourselves And turn our face to God and recognize and praise His Holiness, beauty, and majesty.

Right?! Why would you choose NOT to be in church? Why would you choose to not be among God's people to sing, worship, hear God's Word, and get away from this Christ-hating world for a while, in order to be with other people who love Him as you do? Covid was hellish!

In one of the Q and A sessions near the end of his life Dr. Sproul was answering with John MacArthur and said that he agreed with MacArthur and had come to the conclusion that Creation is 6, 24-hour days.

Wonderful! Sometimes, it can be challenging to believe by faith that which the bible states. This is especially so when it contradicts our beliefs. The books of Genesis, & Hebrews make it plain.

Every 7th day we aught to pause and have a special date with GOD with whom we would have been communicating with all the time. This is the day HE has set for us to forget everything else and focus on our relationship with HIM. This is relationship building 101 for any marriage relationship and any other type of relationship we want to foster. It's beautiful that GOD, in showing us how to love HIM, teaches us how to love each other. Blessings ❤

Love the musical analogy. When auditioning stereo components I always listen for the sustain & decay of notes. The self-regulating mechanism of deism is also prominent in economics going back to Adam Smith. It’s used to justify conditions that are incompatible with a Christian social order.

At time 24:58, the Sabbath, it should be Saturday, the 7th Day. Sunday is the 1st day of the week.

Jesus rose from the dead and preached the first sermon on Sunday Paul and the disciples broke bread for the first time on Sunday Acts 20:7 Now there is a reason why all of the commandments were repeated in the New Testament except for the Sabbath... a new covenant was made so it's no longer Saturday in fact... Colossians 2:16 says so let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or sabbath I hope this helps 😊

If the Sabbath is still in effect, then it is the 7th day of the week, as mentioned in the creation story. However, majority of Christians are assemblying on Sunday, the 1st day of week. God sanctified the 7th day, not a specific personally specified 7th day.

Are you aware that christ is the fulfilment of the sabbath? Now today scripture does not command a day of worship and I mean in the new testament..the reason we gather on a Sunday is because we celebrate the Lord's resurrection and in the book of acts we notice saints gathering on the first day of the week. But what we have today is not what I see in the old testament keeping of the sabbath, and there's no difference between an SDA today and a pharisee back then

@@michaelpelyashi2782 I am not aware of it. Jesus never told us not to keep the 10 commandments (and even several other commands from the old testament e.g., love thy neighbor ...). On the contrary, people kept the Sabbath even after Jesus died. They rested on the Sabbath. Nobody obviously told them that it is not "required" anymore. That's why I remember the Sabbath day ... This is not a justification of the teachings of SDAs ... I am only talking about the Sabbath that God instituted obviously after creation ...

MY FATHER IS GREATER THAN ALL: JESUS SAID, “AND I GIVE UNTO THEM ETERNAL LIFE AND THEY SHALL NOT DIE, NEITHER CAN ANY MAN PLUCK THEM OUT OF MY HAND.” JESUS SAID, “MY FATHER WHICH GAVE THEM TO ME, IS GREATER THAN ALL AND NO MAN IS ABLE TO PLUCK THEM OUT OF MY FATHER'S HAND.” JESUS AND THE FATHER ARE AS ONE IN AGREEMENT IN ALL THINGS (JOHN 10:30). JESUS ONLY SPEAKS AND DOES WHAT THE FATHER COMMANDS OF HIM (JOHN 12:48-50).

JESUS said in HIS WORD 'If you love me keep my commandments'. The Sabbath commandment is the longest because it states who GOD IS and HIS territory. It also shows us how to keep Sabbath and above all, GOD began this commandment with 'Remember '. I'd say HE IS very serious about it. Funny that this is the one many are striving to forget. This in itself would make my red flags go up. What entity will want us to forget? JESUS kept the Sabbath commandment while on earth. GOD'S WORD says that if we break one commandment we are guilty of breaking all. The question is really, are we bringing Cain's offering or Abel's offering to GOD. In other words, are we going to do what we feel GOD should get or what GOD blatantly requires? HIS wisdom is beyond our understanding. However, through obedience to HIS WORD, HE, though HOLY SPIRIT, will grant that our understanding be opened up to see the beauty in HIS love in granting us the commandments, including the Sabbath commandment. Blessings ❤

So….why not just go with 7 days. 7-24 hours days and all of God’s creation was completed. By believing this to be true it shuts the mouths of evolutionism plus opens our eyes in faith that NOTHING is impossible for God. If one can believe God’s creative took only 7 days that should be our starting place true Worship. We are then astonished and fearful in amazement of our Almighty God! (I’m going with the seven literal day program).

Why should we stress so much on the Sabbath when we have Jesus? We can always worship God everyday all the time...not just on Sabbath! However, on Sabbath, we can pray more and longer hours!

The answer is in the verses themselves. You have to be a philosopher to make the simple to understand difficult. Genesis 1:5 God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day. Genesis 1:8 And God called the expanse Heaven. And there was evening and there was morning, the second day. Genesis 1:13 And there was evening and there was morning, the third day. Genesis 1:19 And there was evening and there was morning, the fourth day. Genesis 1:23 And there was evening and there was morning, the fifth day. Genesis 1: 31 And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day. Genesis 2: 1-3 Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. And on the seventh day God finished his work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work that he had done. So God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it God rested from all his work that he had done in creation. Exodus 20:11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy. Six days, not six seconds, not an instant. To give us the example of a work week. Early Christians didn't think 6 days was too short they thought it was too long because they apparently had not read Exodus and believed (correctly) that God could have done it in an instant. But he told us 6 days. Not 6 unknown time periods. That nonsense comes from trying to mix in naturalism (Darwinism, Evolution) into Scripture. Trying to take man's word over God's. Even R.C. Sproul could make that mistake. He said himself no theologian was ever more than 75 percent correct. He admitted he began an Arminian and believed in the "gap theory" but after 5 years he was no longer Arminian. There is no excuse for not knowing it was 6 twenty-four hour days. And one of rest. None at all. God does not lie. "No one gets passed the first verse of of the Bible without facing the test of submission to Scripture. It isn't unclear, it isn't foggy, it isn't oblique. It is crystal clear. So you never get past the first verse without declaring your submission to Scripture, or your lack of it." -- John MacArthur

Before the new covenant, people only had to give a percentage of their time to God just like a percentage of their life to Him (tithes are 10%) But with the new covenant we can fully be with God as Jesus was the Sabbath that freed us from the sin of the world so we can directly with God So He's do consistent that instead of a day or an event to be with God we can be with Him the way He intended us to be
