A midnight ceremony formally inaugurated Sandra Mason as President, replacing British Monarch Queen Elizabeth as head of state. The ceremony forging the world's newest republic fell on the country's independence day and saw the nation of 280 000 people shed the final vestiges of colonial rule. It gained full independence from Britain in 1966.

Queen Elizabeth 👸 is cutting the budget, actually by barbados becoming a republic is a great thing for barbados and the Queen. The British monarchy no longer need to supply money through charities to barbados and barbados will become 💪 stronger and independent.
