Bryce hiding in his shirt basically the whole episode was sooooo relatable. I pretty much watched this episode through my fingers. Paul Mescal tore me apart. A heartbreaking episode with probably more heartbreak to come. 😩

God this episode was heartbreaking but so important to see in media mens mental Health being explored so frankly in a show and normalising seeking help also Paul mescal was nominated for an Emmy for lead actor he got robbed cause he lost but wow did he deserve it

You’re spot on Rob about this not being a fairytale. I think that’s why it resonated so much with so many people. It’s great to have those escapism things but this really delivers on the nitty gritty

Was waiting for this episode specifically, because this is where the show took a deep, deep turn emotionally considering Connell is so closed off when it comes to EXPRESSING his emotions. I was so focused on the episode screen I didn’t realize Bryce was crying. And when I did, I started crying too. Hugs for everyone! It was a tough one.

ive been waiting for this episode! the therapy scene is a masterclass in acting and im so glad paul is getting the recognition he deserves. im also such a fan of the show for being so open about the topic of male mental health, its so important

I second the suggestion that Rob needs to show Aftersun to the other two. Charlotte Wells is such an exciting new filmmaker - and it was amazing to see Mescal step into this new role, and be recognized so widely for his performance. Heartbreaker.

Mescal won a BAFTA for this performance. May I just say, well deserved. This man blows me away in EVERY performance I have seen him in. Y’all should watch God’s Creatures. He plays the adult son of Emily Watson. Very understated performance by both Mescal and Watson. It left me wanting to know more about Brian’s life before he left home and what had taken place while he was away. I was very conflicted because I wanted to like Brian ( Mescal) but at the same time I kept asking myself why is he like this? Did he really do this? No spoilers but it is very interesting. Completely different from Connell in Normal People and Callum in Aftersun. Would love to hear what y’all think. It is very European and no grand gestures or action. Just great acting!!!!

I've read somewhere that Ireland has a high suicide rate. Also watched someone's vlog visiting Ireland and at some point they showed a sign of a call number for suicide prevention close to where the city's river was located and said they had those signs throughout all Ireland. Maybe the concept of "normal people" includes not only that everyone struggles with mental health but also dealing with the "normal problems" of people from that country specifically, since the author of the book the show it's based is also Irish.

I know your channel leans towards the comedic/romantic - which is awesome - but you all are so sensitive - or at least OPEN to the serious subjects on display here (some reactors aren't!) - I think it'd be great if you reacted to some serious stuff too. Chernobyl., for example. Dopesick. (a great series I haven't seen many people react to). Or movies. Older ones. One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. Taxi Driver. Goodfellas. I love what you all do!

We all agree the acting is superb from Paul but also from Daisy in the last episode. It was a real treat having such complex episodes for each of their characters. About the story, I really like the conversation between Marianne and Connell about feeling angry with Rob, meaning, it's truly sad he committed suicide but he wasn't a really good person and the interactions and 'relationships' he established, specially with Marianne, weren't the best. Also, this episode shows how people mature and expand their perspective in so various degrees (Erick, Rob, Connell, Marianne), some stay small minded, others not so much.

this is my favorite episode i rewatch it all the time. the score during the funeral scene is so powerful and I love how much we see the real love between connell/marianne. also paul mescal in the therapy scenes is so incredible!! part of the reason I love this show so much is the way the characters are developed, there was so much thought and detail put into connell's character and consideration of his mental health. so real and *normal*.

Paul Mescal did win an Emmy for this role and it was well deserved..also his star is going to rise in few years, he was just cast as the lead in Gladiator sequel and ita going to make him a star

I’m really glad it wasn’t on Netflix because if it had been, Netflix would’ve wanted 3 or 4 more entirely unnecessary seasons. They did the same with 13 Reasons Why when it was perfect as single, stand-alone season. Considering its release on Hulu, there was a lot of buzz for Normal People when it premiered in 2020, and word of mouth has helped more people discover it.

I felt this episode so much I lost a friend of mine whom I had a crush on to suicide and blamed myself for years because I could’ve saved him instead of being with a abusive men who’s in prison now then got therapy because of all the trauma and blame I put on myself I got better yes I miss him but there’s nothing I could have done even if I wasn’t in a abusive relationship messed up part is he was so happy the last time I saw him he said I deserved better asked me out I said yes because I actually loved him and went to get my things because I was leaving my ex caught him with a family friend sleeping with her and I was drugged raped and then find out my best guy friend/crush killed himself the next day so it was a lot of therapy and crying before it got easier so this episode really hits home❤️‍🩹🥺😭
