We'd like to thank HGregoire for providing us with this 2021 Toyota Corolla LE for this episode. They let us borrow this vehicle from one of their 32 North American dealerships to use for a week and really get to know the car. With over 3,000 vehicles in stock, chances are HGregoire has the right car for you. Save $200 on your purchase by visiting promo.hgregoir...
This week we're driving something we rarely get the chance to do, a mid-level trim on a popular consumer sedan with a focus on price. This 2021 Toyota Corolla LE comes well equipped for about $24,000.00 CAD, allowing you to buy a new car with plenty of standard safety tech while getting a full manufacturer's warranty with it. The Corolla LE has a number of safety and tech features as standard on the base L model, including Toyota's Safety Sense 2.0 which provides drivers with forward collision assist with pedestrian and bike detection, dynamic cruise control, lane departure warning, along with 10 airbags. LED headlights are standard for the Corolla.
Our LE with the LE Upgrade Package also comes with a wiper blade de-icer, 16" alloy rims, a keyless entry system with push button start, power moonroof, heated front seats, a heated leather-wrapped steering wheel, and 8" infotainment system with support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and Qi wireless charging. Our model comes with black cloth seats, power locks, and power windows.
The 2021 Toyota Corolla LE comes with a 1.8L 4 cylinder engine with a CVT and front-wheel drive. During our review we go over the technical specs of the engine along with how this vehicle performed on our independent real-world fuel economy test.
We take the Toyota Corolla LE on a road test to go over our driving impressions of this compact consumer sedan including the interior road noise, the ride and drive, and the performance out of the engine. We discuss some of the interior design along with how the overall vehicle feels if you're in the market for this segment. We wrap up with our final thoughts on the Toyota Corolla and give some ideas as to why this continues to be such a popular vehicle, and why the resale value for it tends to be higher than other vehicles in the segment.

A Corolla has a special price in my heart. After having so many problems with a VW Golf and a Chevy Beretta (both bought new) I purchased a Corolla. Never any problems over 160,000 miles. So good bought one for dad and then one for my sister and another for my sister. Never problems. My life changed with that first Corolla and I became successful at work. I think it had something to do with no worries for a car. Long Live Toyota. Long Live Corolla.

Thanks for sharing! That's likely why Toyota is bringing out a Corolla Cross, to try and build off the reputation of the car with a new crossover.

@@PRNTestDrive the only mistake that they did with Corolla Cross which many people cannot see is the engine choice in which they picked the 2.0 litre found in corolla SE and for SE the engine size is perfect but for the toyota cross due to its size. They could have used the 2.5 litre from the rav 4 especially for that size especially when it comes to towing capability.

@@alvinsimba734 I get your point and agree with you, but I'm not sure the Cross is quite as big as you think. It's a fairly diminutive SUV.

Okay. I know most enthusiasts don't get too excited about Corollas. However, I think this is a very attractive car. I think it looks better than the new Civic, but I haven't seen the latter on the road yet. Factor in very good fuel efficiency, reasonable comfort, likely high reliability, low running costs, reasonable MSRP, and strong resale, and the Corolla is a good choice for a lot of people.

It definitely is! Toyota still banks on their reputation as a selling factor, but I have to say that this Corolla at this trim/configuration makes a lot more sense than the C-HR we drove a few years ago.

I owned this car and I love it. The only gripe I have is the shape of the headlight lens which traps snow in the winter time. It’s concave. Other than that, it is really nice to drive on the highway. Very smooth ride and you can cruise just feathering the gas at 90 mph.
@PRNTestDrive

Great point! That’s something that I can see happening because of the design. I’m going to keep this in mind for the winter season coming up, to see if I can look at those types of issues and test them.

I was saving for a Corolla hybrid but got a great deal on a Fusion Hybrid (used) so went for that. Having rented a Corolla it's not flashy but infotainment, switches are logical and easy to use. Nice car for the money imo.

@@jxmar_ Yes! I know Ford doesn't have the reputation of Toyota or Honda, but that means generally Fords sell for less, especially used. Had a 1999 Camry (until mid of 2022) with 190k miles on it. Gave it off to my local mechanic who charged peanuts for labor while taking good care of my car. It is still running and has crossed 210k miles now. He told me that the body will fall apart before the engine gives up.. what is Toyota feeding these things i wonder..😂

4:59 - This is what confuses me also. Why do Toyota and other carmakers not just make hybrid versions? I want the hybrid version, but around here it costs $5k more. A '21 Corolla LE costs $20K, and the new '22 Hybrids are $25K.
@PRNTestDrive
@PRNTestDrive 3 жыл бұрын
A lot of manufacturers charge more for the Hybrids, one of the few vehicles we've tested recently that doesn't make it as painful was the Hyundai Tucson, as the higher trims in Canada are available only as a hybrid and work out to be roughly the same price as other vehicles in that segment without the hybrid option. We're currently driving the Toyota Highlander Hybrid this week and it is pricey, but only $2,000 more than the non-hybrid.

I suppose it depends on your market. I'm looking at Toyota Canada's website, the 2022 Hybrid is $100 more (Base MSRP) than the 2021, and the Premium Package on it has gone up by $70. The other trims have all gone up by $100 also.
