Dogs that have coat around their muzzles often need to get this hair trimmed to stay clean and comfortable. And on our lighter pups, we also need to look at what discoloration we can trim off to make them even that much cuter!
This may be a bit intimidating, but if done the right way with the right precautions, you can do this! Just pay attention to controlling movement and managing the tongue while making these quick snips. And our adorable model, Dora (the Coton de Tulear) is a little wiggly for face and mouth work, so this can also show you how to deal with that (very common) situation. Good luck and please comment if you have questions!

Hi Early, Dora is the sweetest girl I know (even if a bit wiggly)! But I think it helps to show that not all pups just stand like little models. Even when wiggly, we can get thru it safely. Thanks so much, and so great to hear from you! 🥰

Another very helpful video! This is the hardest area for me (at home groomer). I'm so afraid I will cut my shipoo. He moves a lot right now but I'm hoping that he will get used to it and stay still eventually. He is almost 6 months old. I use clippers on my poodle's face. That makes me nervous but not as much as the scissoring does. Thanks for your videos!

Hi Susan, so glad our videos are helpful! 🙏 Oh gosh, well, a 6 mo old shipoo is definitely a wiggly challenge, especially when working around the face! Best advice I can give is to start getting him used to face holds for short amounts of time and then reward. Increase the timing, and then work with closed scissors and just run them around his mouth, then reward. Once you have him still for a few seconds consistently, u can do a quick snip or 2, watching out for that tongue. I know it's scary (that's a good thing, it makes us careful), but it is definitely doable! Good luck and Happy Grooming! 😊

Great idea for a video and so helpful ! 😃 Any chance of showing how to do this on a short nosed bread, like Shih Tzu? 🙏 Somehow they always escape my grasp 🙈😅

Hi Helle, thank you so much for the suggestion, and I completely understand what you mean! Regardless of the breed, each dog wiggles a little differently, but short nosed breeds seem to be extra sensitive to face work. I go slow and try different holds, like cupping the sides of the face and avoid touching the muzzle as much as poss. But it's a great subject, thank u, will work on filming different ways to hold a face. Appreciate the comment! 😍

Hi Cody! I sent you some tips, hope it helps! And do not worry, many dogs do not like to be handled by the muzzle, and it just takes a bit of getting used to. Thanks so much for your comment!
