Metal/metal works just fine. I don't get how they sue on this basis. I've enjoyed one for 26 years-no issues at all. Just got another three months ago.

I'm 37 years old and a male. I was told my left hip needs to be replaced. I read too much about the surgery and now I'm utterly terrified about everything that's involved. How painful is the surgery? When I wake up from the surgery, will I feel intense pain or do the painkillers pretty much cancel it out? How long does the pain generally last? How about pre-op preperation? For instance, how much does the epidural hurt? The epidural really scares me, and what are the chances of my spine/back getting messed up from it? How much does the cathedir hurt? Can they put it in when I'm under anesthesia? If so how much does it hurt coming out? I'm very into bodybuilding and I'm worried that with all the time it takes to recover, that I will become fat and loose all the muscle/strength I've built thus far... How long does it take to recover to the point where I can walk around normal? Also, how long does it take for someone to recover to the point that they can go back in the gym and start weight lifting again? If someone who had the surgery and who has experience with all this can please let me know the answers to my questions I would be very grateful. I'm avoiding the surgery because I'm so scared about everything involved, but I can no longer walk properly and have a terrible limp, and the pain is stopping me from living my life and doing all the activities I love.

Atul Lall I regret having an epidural in my recent revision. I had 4 hip replacement surgeries prior to that, and I NEVER had an epidural! I had general anesthesia and a morphine pump. I am FURIOUS over the treatment I recently received! I was very painfully jabbed TWICE in my spine (my surgery was at 6:00)--after surgery the anesthesia of the spinal block wore off at 1 AM. In prior surgeries as stated, I was on a morphine PCA pump. Because of the stupid epidural, when I was in extreme post-op pain, I was given (are you ready for this?) Exactly 2 Norco. I kid you not. Of course, THAT wasn't enough to take the pain of a tooth ache, so I got zero pain relief. So THEN they gave me a "whopping" .5 Dilaudid in my IV which gave me half an hour pain relief. STILL not having had adequate pain relief, PT showed up in the morning and had me LIMP down the hall and back! This was insanity! People, hip replacements NEED to scar in! This same hip that was revised dislocated FIVE times band I had to wear a brace for 8 months, and it never DID scat in right after that. THEN, thanks to that lovely epidural, I couldn't owe after surgery, so I has to be painfully catheterized. I will NEVER again have a spinal block! YOU call the shots in your surgery! Don't let them bully you. The reason they do epidural now is they are more lucrative than morphine PC'S. Same with PT. I will NEVER again let sone PT vulture pick at my bones after surgery, and make me do unnecessary things that cause me even mire post-op pain!

@Atul Lall Do you still need advice? Feel free to reach out to me. You should not have a bad experience at all. I'm on Facebook as Frances Scott. Feel free to reach out, and I will tell you my experience (which wasn't good, but that's because of circumstances you will not experience these days!) as well as how hip replacement surgery goes for MOST people. You can get your life back, I promise. This is just a hiccup.

I had mine done last November 20 2017. It went alright. So far so good, I was 37. It really also depends on you and your doctor. I got a ceramic on polyethylene. My doctor was a fellow trained with lots of operations over 400 in six months.
