Hello my name is David and I show you how to protect yourself on the wingfoil and show you how to handle yourself in emergency situations.
When you are learning wingfoiling you are going to crash a lot. Some crashes will be worse than others but it makes sense to protect yourself. A helmet is a good way of protecting your head from impacts with your board or your foil and an impact vest increases your floatation level and lessens your chances of being winded in a bad crash.
Leashes are important because they keep you connected to the gear during or after a crash. This is important because you don’t want to injure anyone around you, lose your expensive gear or end up in the middle of the ocean with no way to return to the beach.
If the wind is not enough to get on foil, you can stand on your knees on your board and let the wing blow you back to the shore. If you do happen to lose your board, you can deflate the leading edge of the wing, roll it up and lie on top of it for extra floatation while you kick your way back to the beach. If the wind completely dies you can deflate the wing, lie on the board and paddle your way back to shore.
Safety should always be considered when heading out into the ocean. Remember, a safe session is a fun session.
