If there were a hidden cave in the middle of an unsurvivable desert with 100 miles of tunnels and a thousand separate chambers with a huge red button that said, "Do not press. The world will end" in one of the chambers, some human would still find and press it.
@bschmidt1

In a world where powerful corporations own the entertainment industry, and someone invents a way to easily create media like videos and songs without even needing the internet, those corporations would no doubt present it as a "world will end" situation. Take your exact same analogy but Do not press redistributes wealth and knowledge instead of ends the world.

AI doesn't care about its life or death. There are plenty of lifeforms that are a huge threats to humans, doesn't mean we destroy all of them. Super-intelligent AGI can negotiate better than anybody, persuade better than anybody, manipulate better than anybody. Moreover 95% of the people a not threat to anybody at all, even other humans. Most of human fuck ups come from misconceptions and not ill intent. Pretty soon most people on Earth are gonna be elevated intelligently by smaller AIs that will help people understand things better, learn things faster, communicate and negotiate on their behalf, help them avoid dangers situations and keep them out of troubles.

One example I saw just a few years ago that really got me concerned with AI's direction was one of those Boston Dynamics AI dogs. It was attempting to open a door, and a 'researcher' was preventing it from doing so by holding the door shut with a broom. It got me thinking: What will the Dog / robot do when it realizes that the ONLY thing preventing it from opening the door is the human?? The only solution would be to get rid of the problem, i.e. 'remove' the human. Very scary times we're living in.

It's only inevitable because we allow them to do it. Because people make excuses, saying that it's inevitable, instead of promoting the only true solution to it. It's only inevitable due to our cowardice. Only a handful of organizations and governments truly have the capabilities to reach any decent definition of AGI. The dude in his garage is not going to do it, not without the servers and infrastructure of the major organizations. If you deal with about 12 tech organizations and 6 or so governments on the planet, humanity loses it's ability to produce AGI for at least decades, if not centuries. Everyone watching this needs to consider the implications AI will have on jobs and our economy, very soon, and demand policymakers start acting! A majority of workers will be out competed by AI by 2030. We cannot stop it, nor do we want to, and we need to start preparing for what it means! AI will only keep advancing. Ignore the instinct to think it'll never do certain things, for I can assure you it will, and far sooner than you may expect. Don't believe those who say we don't need to prepare, as they're probably the ones who'll profit the most from the rest of us struggling. It's not going to create anywhere near enough "new jobs" quickly enough to reemploy all those it will displace! What new jobs could it create, that it couldn't also do itself? AI exists thanks to years of data and content, collected from all of us, that goes into training it to then out compete us. Demand your AI Dividend! Your piece of the benefits your data helped create. How else will we keep workers afloat while they figure out what to do next, how else can we protect the middle class from losing everything they've built? I've yet to hear a better answer, that doesn't just dismiss what's coming.

There's a fundamental misunderstanding of what generative AI actually is. It's a probability algorithm. It's looking for the most likely solution. It's the opposite of creativity or thinking. In contrast, human intelligence is optimized for finding solutions to problems. Generative AI only works if human minds have already solved a given problem lots of times and that data can be fed into the machine to then copy the work in similar situations. You will still need a human to oversee and keep it from doing stupid things.
