Safety Switch Replacement on Toro Zero Turn

I’m replacing the safety switches a toro zero turn and showing a few tricks to make it easier.
On the gas tank side there are just 3 bolts that hold on the beauty cover for the gas tank and you can pull it right off, and the other side you can offset the cover because if you try to take it all the way of it just takes a lot of time and I just took the other one of because the gas tank is there but with the right side there’s nothing else there to really get in the way.
The switches can be difficult to get positioned but once you get them lined up you can stick the flat head between the back of the switch and the handle and it pushes in just fine, just make sure you put them in all the way where the clips are holding them in or they could fall out.

Thank you. My Toro won't start. Just makes a whining sound when I try. Took battery out and tested, it's fine and charged. Only 2 years old but thought I'd try that first. Guess next up to try is replacing the safety switches like this to see if that's the problem. Also, 1:40 on the gas cap....that's me all the time.

also another one same model came to me and had the same problem except it was the computer control modual, engineers are retarded they literally put a metal mounting plate between the computer chip and plate with it sealed on the bottom and open on the top so water and dirt will fester and short out the capacitors and in a few years it will back in for the same repair.

@@huntersworkshop7999 ok thanks. Hopefully they'll learn from that and how not to make them MORE susceptible to weather. Also, if it were a fuse, it wouldn't make any noise at all when trying to start it, correct?

@@markwest8960, correct, If you have this model there are 2-20 amp fuses on the wiring harness on either side of the starter solenoid

If your mower is starting then. It's not a safety switch.

Part # toro 110-6765 and yes, these will keep your mower from starting, these are safety switches,just like the one under the seat in case you fall off. Thank you Hunter

iphone 7, the worse of it is the sound, after making a load noise like a drill it takes a few seconds to even register a voice so it does have its limits, i have the iphone 15 and hopeful it will do the sound better, i always have a heavy aluminum/rubber case that has a almost 1/8 thick glass proctor over the screen. only time ive broken one is when i tried cleaning it with compressed air and it shot the protector out in a thousand shards.

I had a piece of metal that ripped my cable seat when was running, it completely shut down, i couldn't get it running, change 2 fuses and start but won't roll forward or backwards, parking breaks wroks only with key on, do you think my seat sensor is bad since it short out.

If it short it culled be the seat switch but if you put a wire between the 2 points and that doesn’t fix it it is probably the sensors and if that does fix it it’s the computer, I had one come in that we just put a manual switch to turn the brake off and on

how much did you charge for this just for i can know around how much this would cost

Its been a while but i think i charged $100 for switches and install, switches can cost anywhere from $40-$60 for both and labor will depend on where you are, my shop rate is $60 hourly, you can also bypass the switches with a toggle switch because the original switches are set in a series circuit, yo would just have to make sure you use it if you did that modification and doing that would void the warranty if you still have that.

Those 2 switches will not keep the mower from starting will they?

they will keep it from starting and running, the 2 switches run in series and when both are signaled close you can turn the mower on and when you pull the handles in the switch signal open allowing you to move they are also tied into the seat switch if your mower has one, you can bypass the switches by puting a flip switch between one line of the wires and tying them all together in series and the you manually flip the switch as your safety switch vs the independent ones, if that does work it is the computer box on the mower for this model that is causing the problem or the PTO is faulty not allowing it to turn on and run.

If the starter won't do anything but click than maybe the solenoid is bad. Mine clicks but after a few turns of the key it finally engages the flywheel and starts. go figure.

SOOOO what are the symptoms the bad switches???

it occasionally not starting with a good battery or the pto not getting power, and or not coming out of park

My mower needed a solenoid. Replaced it and it started fine. Now it doesn't do anything at all. No clicking. Replaced solenoid again and still nothing. No clicking at starter or solenoid. I have the same mower as you. Could my switches be bad as well?

@@sterlingwitherspoon5709 could be the key switch going out, or if that doesnt work then it will be the computer, this mower got a new computer and was $180, the idiot engineers desided not to put a through whole where the computer (also the brake housing) mounts to so they go bad from heat, dirt and water, to avoid it in the future take the mounting plate mark the bottom and drill or cut of the bottom of the mounting plate for a through whole to help it from happening again, this has been one of the worst zero turn mower brands, toro makes good push mowers and stand-ons but not zero turns. best price on model specific prices like computers is at ACE Hardware they have good prices on parts and are a toro and stihl dealer.

definitely by far one of my worst videos, it was almost 2 years ago and im not made for the camera especially when you only get one video out of a repair, i also suck at editing.
