Awesome video and now I’m picking the express impress. Watched few videos but this one watching the guys try it out and still pull awesome shot sells me. My old express machine was to difficult the grind and tamper was horrible and I ended up selling g it a few months later. Now I’m getting the automatic one!! Love it. ❤ thank you for this video. Shows it’s now made the issues I had with the previous machine are now automatically done here. I’m sold. It’s Black Friday and it’s $999 cdn for the express impress. The pro is also $930cdn. The old express is now $730cdn so I’m sold with the express impress. Thank you for awesome video. Going online and buying now before sale ends and i have to wait for closer to Christmas for the next sale!! Cheers ❤

Thanks for your video. Seems the express impress is the machine for me. I don't think I can dial in and weights carefully in hectic mornings before work and the automatic tamping dosing is nice. While I can still learn and practice manual tamping during weekends. Yeah

Great review! Leaning toward the Impress because of the ease of use (and the cleanliness most importantly) for quick mornings and occasional guest use but I do also have the Smart Grinder Pro for my Precision Brewer. Thought process is that I mainly use the Impress for day to day use and as I inevitably go through the rabbit hole I can then transfer over to the Smart Grinder Pro for dosing and tamping if it ever got to that point. Video definitely helped me!

@@Coffee_Kev A week into the Impress and it’s been great. Had major difficulties the first 24 hours because I was using a light roasted bean (and likely older bean too) and it was jamming the grinder producing a major clicking sound…had to go all the way to grind setting 4 to pull a proper shot….it was producing great espresso but the dose amount was really inconsistent….and I was wondering if I had made a mistake in buying this product in the first place. Had me concerned but after switching to Intelligentsia Black Cat and then dialing in…..it has been flawless. Black Cat grind setting is on 11 and we’re off and running. Really easy to use, very clean process and workstation, and great results.

Impress is using old makeup of the express that’s my only reason for not wanting it. Like give my the thermal jet and the better steam wand on the impress and it would have been perfect for me. Going for the pro, also like the automatic steaming option
@Coffee_Kev
@Coffee_Kev Жыл бұрын
Yeah I'm guessing they did it on the express first as the Express is still the most popular model I believe, and probably because to do it on the pro and/or touch would probably end up not being quite as good a seller due to higher cost. That's my theory, I may be wrong. The impress has sold very well, so I would be hugely surprised if they don't roll this system out to the others. Logically in terms of features the touch would be the obvious one to 'impressify' as auto steaming would be the perfect addition to an assisted machine. I wouldn't be surprised if eventually we see impress versions of the pro and the touch.

Well, they used already dialed in grinder, it’s not that simple. Using a scale and timer is a must! You will never dial in coffee without scale and timer! But if you buy small bags of coffee and use always the same coffee in theory you will need only one dialing in. Dialing in is the most important thing of all for good espresso. Its the difference why with the same coffee in some cafes you get sweet and balanced shot and in other sour or bitter dry.

If you see from 4:47 onwards, this is me (a fairly experienced home barista) using the pro, vs Oli & Wes (who have never used an espresso machine) with the express impress. My blind tasting from 8:38, should be a fairly decent gauge as to whether the Express Impress does what it's supposed to: enable similar results in the hands of a novice vs an experienced home barista. Cheers, Kev.

I've been lucky enough to have been trained in the fundamentals of coffee making at Allpress Espresso and I've made coffee in a commercial environment. I own an Impress, and I think it's a great machine. If you dial the shot times in correctly to your personal preferences it consistently makes a really good coffee with minimal waste, mess, and hassle. The only thing I would say is that I originally had a Black Truffle finish machine but I sent it back and now have the stainless steel version. The painted black finish on my machine was very delicate and started chipping off in places after only a few weeks. Sage's customer support was excellent though, they swapped the machine out for me with no fuss. Also, as Kev says, you can take it fully manual if you want to start experimenting.
@Coffee_Kev

@Coffee_Kev
@Coffee_Kev Жыл бұрын
Hi Benny, haha, puns always welcome here ;-). All you need to do to dose manually, is to get a 54mm tamper (either the official ones breville.oie8.net/BXZ0MB from Sage/Breville or any aftermarket tamper for 54mm portafilters) and the dosing funnel breville.oie8.net/5b9gNb - if you want to distribute using WDT then you'll need a distribution tool (I have one of these bit.ly/wdt025mm ) then just unscrew the splitter on the portafilter, or if you prefer, use an aftermarket bottomless portafilter (I have this one: amzn.to/3OT4qqx). Cheers, Kev.

Yes they're both using the same grinder, but the fact that the quality is the same in the hands of people who've never used an espresso machine before, using standard baskets (not pressurized) vs the barista pro in the hands of someone who's been using traditional machines for a good few years, is impressive, imho. You want to aim for the dial being vertical - so either : 1) Ease off on the grind (mine's generally been on 2-6 depending on the beans) to reduce the pressure, or 2) tamp with a bit less enthusiasm :) . It takes practice. The only reason I'm here is my Express just died after 5+ years and I'm looking for a replacement (probably the Pro)

I have settled at 24 sec extractions with grind size 5 for now.
@Coffee_Kev
@Coffee_Kev Жыл бұрын
Hi Glen, How does your coffee taste? Don't focus on the numbers too much. See kzfaq.info/get/bejne/Y8dpo61pldDOcZs.html I recommend aiming for a shot window of 20-35 seconds, and from there just dialing in by taste. At 24 seconds, I'd just take note of the taste - is there anything wrong with it, and if so, what is the issue? If it's sourness, then this is a sign of under extraction, so you can work to up the extraction. If it's bitterness, this is usually over-extraction, and you can work to reduce the extraction. More videos coming very soon on this. Cheers Kev
