I’ve tried several strap/bunjee setups and none have quite worked and also been convenient. So far I like this one best.

Lol. Any kind of round thing will work. My particular round thing was a little stoneware cup that I got from a bakery. They have like a custard thing and it comes in that. Figured no one would have my exact round thing lol.

Glad it was helpful! I’m no expert but I learned a few things from building my own setups over the years.

Sure everyone has got different needs. This build was built for extended work trips so I needed a moderate level of ability to organize my work gear and the typical daily use items. Previously I was was full time in the element and those setups were geared more toward maximizing total storage so I could have all the essentials with me at all times. All the detail work takes time but for me it’s worth it. I wasn’t looking to save time in the build as much as I was looking to save time when I am out on the road. For one it’s kinda fun for me. And secondly it works for my particular situation right now of doing extended trips. But it’s not one size fits all by any means.

Yeah custom carpentry is expensive! I can’t afford to pay someone. But the process of building is fun for me so it works out.

Haha yeah Cat just got her old Element back. She had given it to family but they didn’t need it and she wanted it back. Gotta get rid of that VW though. Thorn in my side.

@@crstothard My partner Cat also has an element that I have been using and I got an AWD Astro to replace the element. In the process of building that now.

Yeah the extension is not meant to hold my full weight. I think if I beefed up the bolts and washers I used it might be able to but I’d rather not find out. Cat and I moved into this place so we got rid of the shop space we were renting! So this garage is my new shop.

@@wildsage I really love it and your living space is fantastic, too! I’m thrilled that you have such a great life in such a gorgeous part of Oregon! It’s not too far east into the desert, you have amazing mountains, including Batchelor, beautiful volcanic soils and a nice river flowing through town. We’ve stayed at a motel next to the river. Could it be called the Riverside? In college I stayed at a Red Roof Inn? I loved skiing on the bunny slopes of Batchelor because steep parts and speed scare me too much. It was an eight our drive from Eureka. My idiot friend never wanted to make reservations and we got there around midnight and couldn’t find a room so we slept in the car near a turnout. The police shined lights into the car and nicely told us where it would be safer to park. They were very nice to us, two white Jewish guys, me with my Beverly Hills driver’s license and my friend from Topanga Park, I think.

I had a similar situation with my partner for a while. She had a bigger van so my element was used for all my stuff and for times we were apart but I mostly slept in her van. I made the window cover myself. They’re reflectix covered in gaffers tape. My first go at it I used duct tape but it smells like plastic when it sits in the sun. Gaffers tape is a more fabric feeling tape and looks nicer.

I am actually not sure. One was leftover paint from another project and the other was paint I got at the thrift store.

Yeah I use the solar panel to charge up my battery bank. I’ll make sure to cover it when I do a tour of the build in a couple months.

I ended up crashing and tossing the element before I was able to.

Haha yeah I’ve moved just about every piece of furniture in mine. It’s amazing what they can fit. My plan was to leave it in most of the time but to be able to remove it within 5-10 minutes. It was actually pretty easy to take out. You just give the center platform a good pull until It loosens up and then you can pull it all the way out. Then the two side things are freed up so you can just remove them. The hardest part is just unpacking everything out of the shelves and the big drawer because I typically had all my camping gear stored in those area. Unfortunately I totaled the element in June though. Amazingly all of the build stayed pretty firmly in place during the crash. The shelves did sustain some damage though. And since I no longer had an element I got rid of them.

Nice. They’re very versatile vehicles.

I don’t use one. I do have a soft sided cooler that would actually fit on the shelves inside. It could maybe hold a six pack and a few other small things. The space under the bed always stays cool enough to keep most veggies from going bad.

​@@wildsage Makes sense for where you're located. That would not work down here in the south. haha I'd love to know why you decided to put another piece of plywood on the bottom of the platform? For stability? I'm thinking about if I had a flat tire and had to pull the entire platform out.

Had* The maroon one is Cat’s that she had given to family to use for a while. She got it back a few months ago, but then I totaled mine in June. 😞

I don’t have an exact tally on it but it couldn’t have been more than a couple hundred bucks. Maybe slightly more if you include the mattress.

I’m 5’11”. This bed is technically like 6’5” or swim thing so you could fit but you’d have zero room. But if you put your feet between the seats you can dangle them past the platform.
