Hi Gary, great question. In the Milady Standard Esthetics textbook, we can learn that both Argon and Neon electrodes do the same job. The gas that is emmited is Ozone, same for both colors of the light. During the electrode manufacturing process, the air is removed from the tube, and the vacuum is filled with Neon gas. Some electrodes contain Argon - a rarified gas. Since we are not tested on the gas colors and benefits at State Board, a lot of misinfornation and confusion is set out into the market by brands promoting devices and unlicensed KZfaq bloggers.Here are several causes of confusion: 1. Neon and Argon gas electrodes are inaccurately called infrared and ultraviolet because they are mistaken with LEDs. Light Emitting Diode (LED) devices such as LightStim treat skin with a wide spectrum of light colors including violet and orange, hence the confusion. Some people mistake the colors to have the same effect - blue - antimicrobial, germicidal; orange/red - anti-aging. This is incorrect, the gasses have nothing to do with the LED colors. 2. Manufacturers create different uses for the electrodes to sell the products to a wider variety of customers. The high frequency device is mainly used for acne, and customers purchasing it for anti-aging will be disappointed. Besides giving a prickling sensation to the skin, thus stimulating circulation, there are lots of better machines suited for anti-aging at similar prices. Galvanic, RF, microcurrent, EMS, Hifu, ultrasonic, etc. :) Violet - normal to oily, Pink/orange - sensitive is how the textbook defines the skin types for their respective colors.Only the indirect electrode should be used for anti-aging - stimulation/massage.

@@saianskincare That is the clearest most thorough and most helpful reply I've ever received. Thank you so much for making time for such a complete response. After leaving you my question I did some further research and found that both argon and neon produce ozone but one doctor stated that argon also produces a non harmful amount of UV at the point of contact which he said made it the better choice for acne. Is he mixed up with LED light therapy or does argon? I did a google search and could find other source to backup his claim. Another question if I may.. I have oily skin and acne. I've been using the wand with neon for several weeks now but it doesn't seem to be helping. Right after using it, I feel relief. I use all the attachments as specified and i do this every other day. Any thoughts? Again many thanks!

@@saianskincare I use a great toner with vitamin C serum and Niacinamide 10% w Zinc 1% in the AM and have been using Niacinamide /Zinc with Retinol serum and retinol moisturizer in the PM but have just a few days ago replaced the retinol moisturizer with organic aloe at PM. I have a LED face mask that I use with blue light about 5X/week and the neon wand which I thought I'd be using for 7 minutes every other day but not seeing results I've not used it past few days. I have a sonic soft bristle scrub brush that I apply a 2% benzoyl peroxide wash with before my AM and PM applications as listed above.The sonic brush is very good and gets down into the pores. Unfortunately, I have big pores on and around my nose. NOTE: just yesterday I changed up my PM routine. I'm doing my old PM routine at about 5pm and am applying only Metro cream as per my dermatologist for rosacea acne at night before bed. I've tied other things like Jajoba oil at night but I have so much prduct that I stopped doing so.

The high frequency electrode should first be washed with soap and water, and then submerged inside the quats solution, with only the metal tip not inside the solution. This is proper state board sanitation procedure :)
