Part 7: • Saigon Regrets Not Get...
Part 5: • Saigon: I Got Stabbed ...
Part 1: • Saigon: My Brother Die...
--------
In this clip, Saigon recounted his infamous altercation with Mobb Deep, specifically Prodigy and his crew, after a show in New York. The fight ultimately delivered a near fatal blow to his career after his music was banned on Hot 97 for a year due to the altercation. Nevertheless, Saigon spoke highly of the late-great Prodigy and said he regrets not being able to express his gratitude before he passed.

People wondering why New York hip hop isn’t where it should be . Man New York artists can’t even get spins in their own hometown! Same complaint Ice cube had when he came out with I rep that west .Thats why when artists did start to blow off pure support from the fans . The radio would be super late to play the record . They whole format of radio is old and these records labels too . Saigon , Joel Ortiz ( as a solo ) Papoose , Fred the God son ( Rip ) Joe Budden ( after his first album ) Stack Bundles , Max B , Vado ect . All had the streets in New York . Had songs that could’ve played on radio too . Nope ! Even when Veteran Acts would put out albums . Raekwon , Ghostface , mobbdeep , havoc put out a solo ect No love from the stations . Shout to DJ Kay Slay and all the mix show dj’s that spread love . But by the time you get a morning show slot the song be a year old in the streets . The masses missed out on a really great era of Hip Hop if your only in tune to the radio. Sadly some people still are . Peace to Saigon and Vlad for this interview .

I remember when all this went down and it was all over the internet. I was in school. I can’t believe it’s been 13 years since it went down. Salute to Saigon for not throwing P’s name under the bus when he can’t defend himself and rest in peace to Prodigy. I always felt like that time was sort of a grey area for hip-hop. It just didn’t have the sound that it used to have, then just 3/4 years later I feel like we got that feeling back with J. Cole, Kendrick, Drake and a bunch of other dope artists that - to me - gave it new life. Of course this is hip hop so people will disagree but that’s how I personally felt about it. I loved when Cole and them came out, it was a good era.

Bruh I was just thinking the same exact thing. Up until 09’,hip hop became a minstrel show and was hella corny due to record execs worrying about image and whatnot. I still feel rappers in general are corny, just not as corny as they were in the mid 2000’s.

Saigon to me in the mid to late 2000s felt like the second coming of 2pac. He had the best back story as the Yardfather, rapped about deep systemic/political issues and just had this overall chip on his shoulder that made it feel like a hip hop revolution was coming. I'm not surprised with Ebro. Those guys at Hot97 are single handedly responsible for the demise of real New York hip-hop.
