The time had come to make put back to sea and sail for the legendary islands of Fiji!
This is my fourth installment of my "Sailing Alone" long format film series and chronicles my passage from American Samoa to Savusavu on the island of Vanua Levu in Fiji.

Im of tongan lineage born and raised in los angeles. Tongan islands are right next door and im going up there to visit fam. I must say im jealous. For a man to be on a boat in the middle of endless ocean for days and weeks and months, with no signt of land, and to navigate through that, such is a mans voyage through life. We all have our own journeys, blessed that you are sharing yours with us.

Dude i have never been happier for another human being. You are in the true rhythm and it’s beautiful to watch. You’re entire being and relationship to the sea feels like it takes me back 300 years ago. I mean that in the best possible way. And nice to see a day in the life. Blessings James.

The other solo-sailor channel I watch is Adventures of an Old Sea Dog. I'm very surprised at how different your sailing experience is from his. You're cool and calm, at least on the outside. Even when your rudder broke, you're like "ok, well we need to deal with this...". The Sea Dog is constantly having problems with sailing his boat. Constantly not being able to make progress in the direction he's trying to go. Constantly stressed about his motor, etc. I love watching his journey too, he seems like a decent guy, but the contrast between you two is quite amazing to me.

I watched a couple of his videos too. My quick take - James is on his life's mission which he worked towards for years, so he is well prepared. The Old Sea Dog seems to have done plenty of ocean sailing and doesn't have such a sense of purpose now, maybe he doesn't put such effort into preparation.

Dollar for dollar and knot for knot, I think Triteia is the most solid cruiser value in the South Pacific right now. It helps to have a no-nonsense Captain as well, of course.

As a midwesterner that’s never sailed and at my age I most like never will. I am so envious of your lifestyle. I can’t imagine doing what you do. Ive just ordered new electronics and next month I haul out my boat. Blister work, rudder, bottom paint and finish the rewiring taking out original 40 year old wires for new. Your journey helps me push through the tough moments. I'm willing to pay my adventure tax. Thanks and fair winds to you.

Watching you from Nassau Bahamas, wife and I sailed away from the states as well, 1978 Sparkman & Stephens (paid $4k) that we've worked on for the last couple years, no plans to return. D.R. is next! When I look back at when you first left LA to now the video production is thru the roof. The way you tell your story puts me right in the cockpit or down below cooking a meal with you.
