Hi everyone! Here is next leg sailing from Shetland to Faroe Islands, a beautiful 220 NM voyage. Here you can follow me visiting Sandøy, one of the many islands on the Faroes. I met my friend Poul Jakup here and he showed my around all of this island. That resaulted in some spectacular footage.
After that I went up to Thorshavn to get ready for Iceland.
Hope you enjoy!

Just to let you know: you are not the only single handed sailor that sometimes hits a boy or runs aground. As long as the damage to your ego is bigger than the damage to your 35 ft or mine, we will keep sailing single handed and enjoy the seas!

I hit a large unlit bouy off Portugal at night. It was marking a fish farm. Scared the hell out of me since I had no idea what it was 'til I got some light on it.

we almost hit a buoy twice. both times we (two sailors) were both wide awake... just not paying proper attention. pure luck not smashing them. and we ran aground like 5 times :D so yeah... dont you worrie

Haha, I ran aground in Lake Bala only 3 weeks ago. Did a full 180! Only been sailing there for about 2 years so what do I know!!! Teach me to try and look at the weather while steering my Lugger!!!

@@cowboy6591 Great point. Similar to Mads and Athena. I wonder whether Erik and Mads realize what a profound effect their honesty brings to those who tend to be discouraged by setbacks. That attitude can be applied well beyond boat resto/prep and sailing adventures.

Damn, Skipper, I can feel the salt spray down my neck.... Great movie, we were right there with you and are very appreciative of all those who helped you on the way. I'm sure you can get on top of some of those health niggles - for what it's worth I was plagued with digestive issues for a few years which cleared up after we started making our own sauerkraut...who knew???? Greatly looking forward to the next episode, Godbless and thanks again.

You are inspirational Erik! Resilient, humble and courageous. Don't worry for hitting the buoy, I think I'm just lucky it never happened to me but I can remember 2 times when I came less than 50cm from them !! I hope your arm will get better very soon.

Erik: When we sailed downwind on our circumnavigation, we used two headsails as you did, but we poled them out. With that arrangement we could easily sail with the wind 135 degrees abaft the bow on either tack without jibing. We hoisted the mainsail with three reefs and pointed the leech into the wind and held it there with a preventer. This dampened the rolling.

Don't feel bad about running into a sea buoy. During my circumnavigation, I did that TWICE! The first time i got grabbed by an unexpected side current. The second time i was just not observant enough... the buoy was behind the mast. Oh dear. 😬

I had a shoulder injury like that one time. (Motorcycle accident.) I had to wear a sling for several weeks. Pro tip: Quit smoking. Nicotine constricts your blood vessels. Quitting smoking will allow you to recover more quickly because proteins will make it through the capillaries that deposit nutrients into the damaged areas of your tendons. (I learned that one recovering from tendinitis caused by practicing guitar too much.) Best of luck.

Lots of canned food eating it all day and nights, eating unregularelly = ulcer problems. I had the same problem wich bothered me for years. Then, one day,my condition became even more worse and i needed to go to operation. Nowadays im well and i threw away canned food from my life. When im going outside,in nature or hiking for days and weeks i bring already cooked and prepared food with fruits and just eat that. Never ever had problem with ulcer.

Erik, sorry to hear about the shoulder injury. Those things take time to heal and sometimes, surgery. I hope this didn't come between you and Greenland. BTW, good sailing technique on that downwind run with the staysail on one side and the headsail on the other side. We call that 'wing on wing'. Would recommend a 'whisker pole' so you can pole out either the head or stay sails so they don't flog and flap back and forth in the wind. Saves some wear and tear on the sails and keeps them fully out so they don't have to refill with wind to push the boat. The foggy entrance to Skalavik reminded me of a few races I've done here in Juneau, Alaska (we get a LOT of fog), where we pulled into the fjord in the dark of night using only the radar, and then got close enough to the harbor to finally see the lights but had to use strong flashlights to help get past the breakwater! Glad your friends came through for you. I do enjoy the part of your videos where you show the attractions and history of the islands you visit, and some of the history of those areas, especially via drone. Good content. Lastly, I ordered my NBJS merch and it should be here shortly! Ser deg senere! Wade

Wow, Erik! The opening shots of Lerwick harbor are amazing, as are all your drone shots in this video. Wow!! So, it’s not like you to hit buoys, even though accidents do happen. I’m sure Tessie won’t take it personally. There aren’t many 40+ year old ladies with perfectly smooth surfaces in existence anyway. 😉 Don’t beat yourself up over it. You were, maybe, just not quite yourself. I was going to say, “At least you are home now resting,” but the shoulder. 😮 What on earth happened? Never a dull moment in your life. That’s for sure. ❤ Loved the video but I hate to see you struggling with health issues of any kind. It will take some time for that shoulder to heal, ouch!! I hope your mom makes you a few more salads and some nutritious food. Please take care of yourself and get better soon. Looking forward to the next video in this series. It’s always good to hear from you. 😢❤🥰
