Great video James, what a beautiful, chill passage! Loved the whales and dolphins especially. It was really nice of you to give the hitchhikers a lift too and what a great interview! Always nice to hear what other people are doing and get ideas for traveling in non-traditional ways. Hope you're enjoying the warm weather down there in NZ! Merry Christmas from icy Texas! May fair winds be with you! 🌬⛵

Unreal. I remember so vividly diving in the pacific and feeling the whale song vibrating through my chest. Never saw one underwater but you knew they were there. Humbling, exhilarating, being in the presence of these animals traveling the world with us.

Merry Christmas James. What a great passage seeing the humpbacks. Brings back memories of Christmas morning in 2005 in the Gulf Islands of BC, We were motoring down the trincomali straight and a pod of orcas came right at us, breaching on both sides of the boat. blowing and staring into our eyes less than 10 feet away. The most magical experience of my life. Thanks for the reminder. Fair winds and following seas my friend

I'm hoping to get out of alberta this year, and into the British Columbia interior lakes, and learn some new stuff, see some new landscapes. James! Remember to travel alone. Less people less disaster. I ment to say it's a good idea to travel to Australia! Just DO NOT CROSS THE INDIAN OCEAN! A BIRD TELLS ME YOUR SAILS WILL FAIL AND YOU RUN OUT OF SUPPLIES. when you do realize it's better to be around "Less people Less Disaster" Australia is best. Make sure you stop at every supply hub in India, keep all supplies full at all times! Make sure you travel during winter months! You will roast like a chicken in the boat! LESS PEOPLE! LESS DISASTER!

@4:43 - I think one of the most remarkable things about this freeze-frame is that there are two young people observing a potentially life-changing event and there is not one phone filming between them - not even a still camera. They are recording life with the minds-eye. Far better than all the megapixels in the world. I know the captain is filming, but that isn't my point.

TOO PIERRE AND HIS WIFE ! Learn about the soil in Australia. The American natives lay fish on top of the soil to fertilize 🤯 and for the fresh water. You will need to put up moisture nets to collect condensation!! Only the smart and strong there!! Less people less disaster. It's all about collecting the water from the air and fertilizing the soil. And you need a good roof over your head as well. God bless your mind body and souls🤟🖖🦅🛫✈️🛬. Make sure you fly there it will be safer and healthier.😘

Well thats your area & youre used to hitchhikers, me, I would be too afraid somebody wanted my boat after seeing a movie ( I know but it must have happened before ) like that once. Looking forward to your next tour maybe you'll invest in a little scooter instead of killing your feet/legs :)

All of my videos are several months delayed on KZfaq like most sailing channels, this is due to only releasing one video a week vs. how many amazing places I visit as well as creating a buffer for when I am at sea and in remote places that are impossible to upload from. I am currently in NZ and spent as much time as possible in the South Pacific before cyclone season arrived. As for completing the journey, my best guess on this first circumnavigation is I will be back in LA 2025 or 2026

What does it mean when you say your using 5 scope or another number scope i think when anchoring?
@SailorJames
@SailorJames Жыл бұрын
Scope refers to the amount of ground tackle (anchor chain) you have out vs. the depth of the water you are in. If you are in 20ft of water and you have 5 scope out it means you have 5 times the depth of the water (100ft). You should always be at least 5 scope if spending the night, 4 scope is ok in really deep water because the anchor and tackle are heavier in deep water (like 70ft deep)

Can I ask you James what size boat do you think a solo sailer can handle...as in what is the biggest size ( 48 foot ) bigger or smaller solo sailer could sail by him or her self ??? Love your channel...Hitchin a boat ride fantastic 👏 👌
@SailorJames
@SailorJames Жыл бұрын
I dont know why a solo sailor would want a 48ft boat. I think for solo sailing or short handed sailing, 40-42ft is a great size. Could you sail a 48ft boat solo? sure but the real question is can you dock in at a wharf or marina or fuel dock in high winds alone? thats when things get really hard.
