I love how many of the comments are like "I prefer the anime" because like. No duh literally everyone prefers the anime, it is an objectively better product. That said, Saban Moon is fascinating imo and I'd love to know how it would've gone had it been picked up. It's a really fun oddity and I'm so happy that it's no longer lost media.

I liked the american concept, but no way would ever go beyond like the way the original anime went and the manga did! And here we are 30 years later and Sailor Moon is stronger than ever.

Господи, американская копирка Сабан Мун и близко не сравнится с оригинальной японской Сейлор Мун. Превращения ни о чем - я бы сказала ленивые, в персонажах нет изюминки и оригинальности, как в красавицах из аниме и манги - там чувствуется, что автор постаралась и внесла всю душу и любовь в свое детище. И заметно ощущается, что американские создатели делали все в спешке, чтобы заработать на своем плагиате славу, не проработали вселенную американской версии Сейлор Мун (исключение - Могучие Рейнджеры), и получилось сыро и вторично, в то время как каждая героиня из оригинальной манги обаятельные, красивые, разные по характеру, запоминаются стиль, рисовка и способности девочек, их взаимоотношения и дружба. Вот за что мы любим и по сей день Красавицу Воина Сейлор Мун!:)

Какой это к чёрту плагиат? Сами японцы дали добро американцам на лицензирование Сейлор Мун. В том числе и на производство оригинального мультсериала на основе аниме. Была собрана команда, разработана немного другая идея (более понятная жителям США) и выпущен ПИЛОТНЫЙ (!!!!) эпизод американской Сейлор Мун. Но из-за того, что затраты на производство могли быть слишком большими, проект закрыли и решили просто ограничиться дубляжем аниме.

You know... considering there’s tons of timelines that could work. Manga, anime, Japanese live action (was actually pretty good), musical (also good), Another Story video game (love it) and Saban Moon all together would be interesting.

Literally the orginal Japanese one is so much better, they made everything by hand, painted it frame by frame, and just put so much love into it + the music is amazing. Sometimes I just hate America so much 😭😃

Embarrassing too. Toon Makers could've made a more successful concept of female fighters. No doubt the concept of having Jewels of Power is cool, but they should've came up with their own name instead of naming it Sailor Moon and coming up with their own enemies.

I prefer the Sailor Moon from the Janpanese version because the characters designs from Toonmakers Sailor Moon look awful especially the version of Sailor Mercury is on a flying wheel chair instead of walking on her feet like the others.

Well in the documentary, one of the main people in charge said that they were politically correct in representation. They had a Asian girl, black girl, Latina girl, and a disabled girl. So they were trying to go for a diverse cast.

Hate to say it, but it seems that a lot of people just watched the pilot rather than the documentaries. Ofc without knowing what actually happened there, people will quickly say "everything's cheesy, the animation is garbage", etc.

I haven't watched the full pilot yet, but I will say the transformation CGI looks much better than in the original Saban Moon video, so they improved that. Also Saban Mars ironically actually LOOKS like Sailor Mars. Albeit with short hair.

Saban wasn't involved in this. They were one of the companies that Toon Makers and Renaissance Atlantic tried to pitch their version of Sailor Moon to. Like DIC, Saban said No! DIC thought it was too expensive to make the show half live action and half animated. They thought it was in the best interest and much cheaper to dub Sailor Moon. Despite the bad dubbing and skipping episodes, it was infinitely better than what we could've got. Saban thought the writing and the plot was terrible. They decided to dub Dragon Ball and Gatchaman II along with Z(renamed Eagle Riders)

The problem was how poorly written it was and I don't mind diversity myself. I think if Toon Makers, Renaissance Atlantic and Bandai America had the budget, they could've explained how Mercury ended up handicapped. How she was supposed to be the doppelganger to Moon. If I did this differently, it would've been this. I would've retained Mercury being Asian and the brains of the team. Mars being a fiery Latina, elegant and friendly. Jupiter being a friendly, levelheaded and strong athlete. Venus being a blonde like Moon and retaining her doppelganger status, but also being a poor student and naive. I would've kept it similar to how Takeuchi did her series.

Don't get me wrong. I don't mind diversity. I don't mind having different races being Sailor Guardians. I just think they could've done much better without having to make one of the girls handicapped. For me, I would prefer Mercury being an Asian and maintaining her genius. Mars being a fiery Latina. Venus being a blonde and maintaining her doppelganger status as Moon's double. Plus Moon wasn't perfect either. She made some mistakes, but she took responsibility for them.
