Sailor does makes a mini converter for them. Perhaps it’s because the European market doesn’t include them. That seems to be the norm for most European market FPs. At first Sailor didn’t make them. Nagahara had hacked some standard Sailor converters for Bungubox PGSM models and I think Sailor caught on and produced them shortly after. Also worth note. Sailor does also make a Pro Gear standard (the thicker barrel and larger 21k nib) in a mini size as well. But, I think it’s not a standard production model and only pops up in collaborations or shop exclusives (i.e. Bungubox Mandarin Orange model, or past Kingdom note exclusives).

The mini converters (Sailor do make them) are only 0.3ml, so refilling cartridges is actually a pretty compelling option.

I love Sailor nibs. My favorite!

I recently acquired a Sailor Profit with a zoom nib. I don't even particularly care for the profile of the Profit/1911, and it's just a black pen with sliver trim, but I couldn't pass up the opportunity to try out a zoom nib at the great price I found it. I freaking love it. It's probably my favorite pen to write with, even if I don't find the pen itself particularly interesting to look at.

The older version had threads on the back for posting, which I prefer. Not sure why that changed. I love the older model. It is a mini pen but impressive!

I am watching this and will love the review, why? It’s a Sailor. So Dr. Brown when I purchased mine years ago it was called a Sapporo as a Sailor model. I dont’t know the answer but why did they drop that old name? Lastly with the pen capped and that wonderful nib I just wished I found a converter to fit vs the cartridges.

I have just the one Sailor PG Mini, a truly gorgeous (multi-colored) limited/special edition release (w/21k nib instead of the usual 14k) that I bought directly from Japan for nearly $500. The prettiest and best writing pocket pen I’ve ever owned. Sailor’s cartridges are anyway preferable to their converters. So, the pocket pen is (to me) just perfectly fine with the cartridge. In my experience, Sailor’s best gold nibs (14k and 21k) are size M and above. I don’t like the F too much, and I wouldn’t even consider getting an EF.

2:15 . I would be quite perplexed to find a sausage in my pen box. If it ever did happen I would hope it would be a traditional Lincolnshire sausage, from North of The Wash, served in the traditional “high” style.

Mmm. I wish I needed and could afford a new pen. I very much like this little guy. I'll check your website for dimensions, but it looks about the same size as a TWSBI Mini or maybe a Kaweco Sport. I use both big and little pens with ease so this size would work for me. I'm not a red-color guy, but I truly like that burgundy and I have a number of black 'n gold or silver pens. It would have to be a broad nib though. :D Thanks Stephen!!

Helpful review. I suppose if I couldn't find a Jinhao 82 mini, I'd settle for the Sailor.... Agreed with your comment on the Realo version-not-yet-realized -- but why stop there? Let them make the section and barrel all resin, put on an O-ring, and make it an eyedropper!

Sailer makes a mini converter for these pens now, endless pens and a handful of sailer retailers carry it. Harder to find in stock but worth it sailer also makes hard plastic refillable cartridges and you can even refill them with an eye dropper. They hold well over a mil of ink and are like 5-6 USD for a 6 pack. One of sailor's most economical prices of any accessory for sure.

Hellllooooo Dr Brown, I've always felt that Sailor nibs are almost two grades too fine. I have a Sailor Pro Gear Slim (bit to small for me, but my mum thinks it's pretty) and the nib is labelled M-F or something like that, it's like writing with a Extra-EF nib. I wish I could find a broad. Out of the Japanese makes, I like Platinum 3776 in medium, it's fine but not too fine and it's lovely and wet, also the nib is cool with it's big wings. Chelsea

My writing does lead me towards preferring fine and extra-fine nibs, but even so, hearing you wince a bit while doing the writing sample was very relatable (I have a Sailor 1911s in EF, and the best way to describe the feeling of using it is "precise and sharp"). Personally - after owning and using the aforementioned Sailor 1911s in EF for some time - I can confidently say that while I can appreciate why people love Sailor nibs, it isn't really for me (I lean more towards "buttery smooth", so Pilot has thus far been my best bet). Here's to hoping Sailor will introduce soft nibs one day.

Thanks! But in my experience, Sailor nibs get deform easily under pressure. It also seems the price is high!

The Sailor F (fine) nibs were not at all good, in two of their pens which I had before. Fine/Extrafine might be a choice only for those who are going to write Chinese/Japanese language characters. Having said that, their medium are amazing nibs. The FM(fine-medium) in their KOP is of course, the best nib in the universe.
